Clean Harbors Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Driver (Class B CDL + Hazmat Required) in Benicia, California

Clean Harbors in Benicia, CA is seeking a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Driver to join our Technical Services team. This is a hybrid role that combines environmental field chemist responsibilities with dedicated driving duties using a 26-foot box truck to support HHW collection events across the Greater Bay Area and Northern California.

This position involves both hazardous waste handling and Class B driving, with regular field work at customer locations and weekly travel, including a guaranteed overnight every Tuesday night in the Sonoma area. The successful candidate must have a Hazmat endorsement prior to hire and be available for weekend HHW events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and always acting in a safe manner

  • Operate a 26-ft box truck to transport hazardous waste to company facilities or disposal sites

  • Support Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events on weekends

  • Conduct weekly overnight routes, including a recurring overnight every Tuesday in Sonoma

  • Perform physical labor including lifting drums, setting up collection sites, and assisting with cleanups

  • Prepare computer generated packing lists, labels, manifest, and land disposal restriction notifications

  • Perform inspections of staging, accumulating and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance

  • Inspect storage area and drums for leaks or spills

  • Inspect drums for compliance with labeling regulations

  • Collects, segregates, and properly packages waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance

  • Executes Jobs at Clean Harbors customer locations including fortune 500 companies

  • Conducts projects/jobs according to site specific Federal, State, and local regulations and health and safety plans

  • Understand customer specific disposal restrictions/special packaging requirements

  • Ensures drum count is correct and that drum conditions are shippable in accordance our company’s policies and procedure

  • Follow all local, state (provincial) and federal compliance regulations and rules

  • Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state (provincial) and federal requirements

  • Safely observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures

  • Observe all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid CDL Class B with Hazmat endorsement (required prior to hire)

  • Availability for weekend HHW events and weekly overnight travel

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Ability to perform physical labor and work both indoors and outdoors

  • Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical, by position

  • Per OSHA's Respiratory Protection Standard, 29 CFR 1910.34, employees in positions requiring respirators are required to meet facial hair standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with HHW collections or environmental field work

  • Previous experience in Environmental Services (i.e. remediation, abatement, emergency spill response, etc.
