Amazon is seeking a Senior System Development Engineer to support the Amazon Logistics WW Central Engineering engineering team. This individual will have a primary focus on the design of industrial control panels and complex electrical systems, including: layouts, schematics, BOM and wire schedules as well as supporting control system software development. This Senior System Development Engineer will contribute to all aspects of an agile systems development life cycle including design, architecture, development, documentation, testing and operations. This position will be responsible for designing, managing and executing the next generation of delivery station processes, equipment, and operations. Key job responsibilities
Own the design and development of industrial controls panels and control programs for complex Material Handling Equipment (MHE) for the Amazon Logistics North America network
Participate in design reviews for complex electrical and control systems, simulations, algorithms and software development owned by your team, partner teams and vendors
Influences within your team and partner teams to help drive and develop the technical implementation for overall system designs
Identify and implement process improvements which improve your team’s agility. This may include improvements to design, automation, development, test or operations.
Define and/or refine system requirements, participate in the development and delivery of Interoperability-related features such as system health monitoring and power monitoring systems.
Simultaneously manage multiple high-visibility projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors
Review new, advanced technology being introduced for MHE systems with a focus on electrical and controls interfacing requirements
Understand control systems for material handling, including Allen Bradley PLCs, IPCs , barcode scanners and industrial networks such as Ethernet, safety over ethernet IP.
Develop, document and update design standards in conjunction with worldwide design teams, with emphasis on the electrical and controls design standards
Good experience with CODESYS and PLC logics
Experience with technical solutions that encompass advanced technology applications, conveyor hardware selection, material handling integration, and vendor commissioning content and expectations
A day in the life
Your work is very hands-on and multi-disciplinary. You will be working closely with vendors, cross-functional engineers, and project teams. You lead design reviews, ensure electrical code & standards compliance, maintain/update electrical work SOP documents, support control code (Codesys and AB PLC) reviews, develop check list & test plan, demonstrate proof-of-concepts, build prototypes, and manage stakeholder expectations.
Basic Qualifications
2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or computer science, Engineering Technology, or other related Engineering
7 years of experience in Electrical/Control systems in a IPC/PLC based controls design, development, implementation in a fast-paced industrial, logistics, production / manufacturing environment
1+ year experience in CODESYS
Demonstrated experience with Functional Safety standards (IEC 62061, IEC 13849, or IEC 61508) - Excellent understanding of applicable regional electrical code and standards (NEC, CEC, ETCI, NFPA, UL508A, IEC, etc.) - Experience with schematic and layout ECAD tools.
Preferred Qualifications
MS in Electrical or computer science, Engineering Technology, or Equivalent
10+ years of experience in Electrical/Control systems in a IPC/PLC based controls design, development, implementation in a fast-paced industrial, logistics, production / manufacturing environment
1+ years’ experience directly developing control strategies in CODESYS. - Expert in applicable regional electrical code and standards (NEC, CEC, ETCI, NFPA, UL508A, IEC, etc.).

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
