Description and Qualifications

The Senior Communication Specialist is the primary developer and communications strategist servicing our internal clients in the family support and clinical service lines. This person is a thoughtful strategist with strong skills in synthesizing internal leadership direction and providing effective communications for navigating cultural and religious sensitivities to support teams in the donation authorization process. A strong writer and team collaborator, this person will also provide engaging, mission-driven content for our key donation partners (spiritual/religious care and civic community leaders) to help LifeCenter Northwest further its life-saving mission.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications & Community Engagement

  • Serves our internal clients (Family Support, Organ Recovery Coordinators, and Organ Donation Coordinators) as the communication and marketing subject matter expert, in support of their department goals in working with donor families.

  • In partnership with our internal clients, ensures consistent tone/message/branding to target audience within clinical leadership and their clinical staff across our donation service area.

  • Develops and maintains in-hospital Family Support resources to aid in the authorization of donation and to support and inform families about the donation process and the inspirational opportunity and hope that donation offers in a time of despair.

  • Establishes and serves our external partnerships with religious, spiritual, cultural, and civic community leaders throughout our service area to promote donation awareness and to learn how best to support families in a traumatic hospital setting with end-of-life circumstances.

  • In partnership with our communication team, builds relationships in diverse communities and engages with spiritual leaders across our service area to learn and collaborate on how best to support families whose loved ones have the opportunity to donate.

  • Plans and develops content and messaging, including an editorial calendar, monthly stories or informational flyers, article submissions, and potentially an e-newsletter for spiritual care communities and cultural leader audiences and updates internal stakeholders on outreach initiatives.

  • Collaborate with team to develop and implement a speakers bureau to bring cultural and spiritual care leaders together to help advise and promote organ & tissue donation to our internal audiences and throughout our service area (and in partnership with healthcare teams as necessary).

  • Develop in partnership with our learning and development team, internal enrichment or training to raise awareness with our staff on communities we serve in our service area by establishing programs with educational webinars, speaking engagements, etc.

  • Advise on potential community sponsorships and advertising opportunities.

  • Coaches donation advocates (such as donor families, transplant recipients, and cultural community/religious leaders) for community speaking opportunities.

    Creative Content Development

  • Strategize, write, and craft messages and engaging stories alongside our Communications team and clinical leaders.

  • Refines former core messaging to ensure consistency in all aspects of communication, including development and deployment with internal teams.

  • Creates engaging content for a variety of channels not limited to video, e-newsletter, email, website, and print, reflecting LifeCenter’s values and vision.

    Project Management

  • Works to ensure communications needs are tracked, plans are formalized, and the work follows the approval process before distribution.

  • Tracks and measures communication effectiveness and outcomes.

  • Is responsible for budgeting, development, planning and implementation of program plans related to role of driving progress and growth for our donation authorization process through communications, public relations, and outreach in coordination with donation teams.

  • Collaborates with donor family aftercare, community relations, family support, and communication team members to best utilize resources and experience.

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Follows other instructions/directions and will perform other related duties as required by the needs of LCNW and leadership team.

  • Participates in, and may lead, employee committees and events.

  • Complies with applicable laws, regulations, and LifeCenter policies and procedures.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Strong writing and editing skills including content organization, message flow, grammar, proofreading, and editing (written samples and editing test will be required).

  • Program development and project management skills. Ability to help guide teams with creation and implementation of new communication and marketing initiatives.

  • Experience or education in community outreach, advocacy, and/or relationship development.

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and Adobe Creative suite or other layout/design programs required.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines, and desire to be a self-starter.

  • Operating knowledge of software such as SharePoint, Trello, Smartsheet .

  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, continuously evolving, and at times ambiguous environment.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES/REQUIREMENTS

    This position requires a normal level of physical activity. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to communicate clearly using the English language to accurately convey information and be able to hear at a normal speaking level both in person and over the phone , is frequently required to walk and sit and is occasionally required to stand. The employee may occasionally move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    ANTICIPATED WEEKLY TIME COMMITMENT

    The duties of this position will typically require 37 hours per week. In this position, the incumbent may need to work outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends, sometimes without advance notice.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related experience with writing/editing emphasis desired.

  • 8-10 years of relevant experience- including at least 5 years in communications or marketing, or public relations required.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, or another language is highly preferred.

  • Experience with hospital or healthcare marketing and communications desired.

Where a candidate’s compensation falls within this range is based on several bona fide factors such as experience, tenure, and other specialized knowledge.
