Description and Qualifications

The Procurement Trainer works closely with clinical staff, Organ Recovery Managers, and the Procurement Training Team to increase organ donation and optimize organ utilization through effective onboarding and ongoing education of ODS staff. The Procurement Trainer is responsible for delivering high quality training and education to Organ Recovery Coordinators (ORCs) and Organ Donation Coordinators (ODCs). This role serves as one of the principal resources for organ donation related clinical education in the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Clinical Training: In collaboration with the Procurement Training Program Manager (PTPM), assists in the delivery and implementation of effective and timely onboarding for the ORCs and ODCs. Training follows current regulatory guidelines and compliance standards and remains focused on Strategic and Organizational goals. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of clinical guidelines and practices.

Under the guidance of the PTPM, delivers trainings to ORCs and ODCs during onboarding through various modalities.

  • Outcome: Completes training functions and collaborates with leadership, Learning and Development, and distributed trainers to create efficiency and consistency with other onboarding programs.

  • Assessment: Facilitates instructor-led clinical training in person, virtually, and onsite during case activity. Provides input on modifications for onboarding processes.

  • Intervention: Leads in delivery and maintenance of training that is effective and in line with current practices, standards, and policies.

  • The Procurement Trainer assists in tracking the progress of ORCs and ODCs during onboarding to ensure a timely and effective orientation.

  • Outcome: Communicates and documents the progress of the ORC/ODCs during onboarding including completion of assignments and adequate clinical experiences.

  • Assessment: Accurately keeps records of orientees, guides process and collaborates with the Organ Recovery Managers (ORCMs) and preceptors to manage schedules and orientee assignments. Assesses the needs of orientees and adapts training appropriately.

  • Intervention: Assists in the onboarding process in collaboration with ORCMs, PTPMs, preceptors and other stakeholders. Provides education, clinical expertise, guidance, and support to clinical staff onsite, in group settings and on a 1:1 basis.

  • Works directly with ORCs and ODCs onsite and during simulations to assess knowledge, ability and progress toward core competency signoffs and independent job functions.

  • Outcome: Signs off ORCs/ODCs in a timely and efficient manner and identifies when they can independently function in their roles.

  • Assessment: Assesses orientees directly onsite and/or during simulation and gathers feedback from preceptors and other appropriate staff members.

  • Intervention: Collaborates with Clinical Training Team, ORCMs, preceptors and other clinical staff to ensure timely feedback is being given and training needs are being met through direct observation and assessment.

  • Provides guidance to preceptors to achieve and maintain standardized training processes and curriculum.

  • Outcome: In collaboration with PTPM, observes and coaches preceptors to verify established standards are taught and followed in the field.

  • Assessment: Suggests and assists improvement initiatives related to the Preceptor Program.

  • Intervention: Collaborates with stakeholders to identify needs for development and improvement, assists in coaching and mentoring preceptors, and keeps up to date resources and tools for preceptors to utilize.

    Ongoing Training: Collaborates with the Procurement Training Team to advance the procurement training program.

    Assists with development of clinical training courses that align with strategic and organizational goals.

  • Outcome: Updates and assists in the building of procurement training courses.

  • Assessment: Identifies content requiring updating or development and demonstrates initiative to make the needed changes.

  • Intervention: Updates and develops training as needed using various modalities in collaboration with the Clinical Operations Training Program Manager (COTPM) and training team.

    Collaborates with COTPM and other stakeholders to provide foundational skills and ongoing education.

  • Outcome: Participates in clinical skills day planning and facilitation. Leads simulations and conducts onsite evaluation for core competency reviews.

  • Assessment: Executes ongoing training and evaluation with ORCs and ODCs through onsite evaluation, simulation and didactic training.

  • Intervention: Contributes to workgroups focused on ongoing educational needs of ORCs/ODCs.

    Mentorship and Coaching: Acts as a leader and mentor to clinical staff with diplomatic communication, is approachable and open-minded, consistently exhibits growth mindset, demonstrates teamwork and complies with clinical practice and regulatory standards at all times.

    Encourages critical thinking, ensures timely completion of duties, and provides real time coaching and feedback including areas of opportunity and positive recognition.

  • Outcome: Establishes strong working relationships with orientees and preceptors; provides regular feedback and coaching for growth and success.

  • Assessment: Provides real-time, tangible feedback as indicated.

  • Intervention: In collaboration with ODS leadership and other stakeholders, serves as a mentor and provides ongoing feedback during onboarding and regarding preceptor duties.

    Communication and Collaboration: Engages effective communication and coordination regarding education and training with all stakeholders.

    Develops and maintains effective communication and productive professional relationships with internal and external partners including transplant centers, hospital partners and donation organizations.

  • Outcome: Works closely with Learning and Development, distributed trainers, ODS leadership and clinical staff as well as external partners to optimize and align training functions with operations.

  • Assessment: Frequently updates clinical staff and leadership. Clearly communicates with Resource Triage Coordinators (RTCs) and Administrators On-Call (AOCs) as needed to ensure appropriate orientee/preceptor assignments.

  • Intervention: Attends ODS meetings and clinical case reviews as appropriate, and regularly updates ORCMs on orientees and preceptors. Communicates directly with RTCs and AOCs and collaborates with Quality.

    Administrative and Quality Duties: Completes timely and accurate documentation in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and LifeCenter policies and procedures. Leads in efforts to maintain excellent documentation standards in the field.

  • Outcome: Maintains accurate training records and assists procurement training with delegated administrative duties.

  • Assessment: Keeps organized training records and completes assigned administrative duties including maintenance of case log forms, didactic schedules, and supply lists.

  • Intervention: Completes and updates all training documents at regular intervals ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations and policies.

    Supervision

  • This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities .

  • This position may require the ability to operate specialized equipment, such as audio-visual equipment.

    Physical Activities/Requirements

  • This position will require training in locations throughout the LifeCenter designated service area (DSA) with some advanced planning ability.

  • Must be willing to work in an office and hospital setting, where exposure to bio-hazardous materials could occur.

  • This position requires the ability to effectively operate phones, computers, and other office equipment.

  • The individual must have the ability to communicate clearly using the English language to accurately convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the phone.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Generally, working conditions do not require exposure to hazardous materials or extremes in health and safety hazards. Work is normally performed in an office or hospital setting as well as other business environments.

  • This position is required to follow hospital immunization, health screening, and background check requirements. Immunizations and tests will be provided by LifeCenter as required.

  • The employee is required to lift up to 35 pounds with or without assistance.

    ANTICIPATED WEEKLY TIME COMMITMENT

  • This position will require flexible hours to accommodate case-dependent field-based training.

  • May need to work outside of regular business hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays, sometimes without advance notice. Available for consultation by phone outside of regular business hours as needed.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working as a health care practitioner.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • CPTC or CPT strongly preferred and required after 12 months in the position.

  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in organ recovery or other applicable work experience.

  • Requires a valid driver’s license and access to an insured automobile or the ability to arrive and depart from work and work-related functions at expected times.
