International School of Beijing MS EAL Instructional Assistant in Beijing, China
JOB GOAL/PURPOSE:
To assist the EAL teachers in achieving student learning objectives that promote student success within and outside the classroom. The instructional assistant provides instructional support to students on a consistent basis as directed by the supervising EAL Teacher.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:
• Under supervision, contribute to classroom or school-wide educational program, organization and management:
Assist multilingual learners (MLLs) with their language development by providing individual or small group instruction
Support students in all areas of language development (listening, speaking, reading, writing, and vocabulary), fostering their confidence and independence in using English
Collect data on student language growth, achievement, and application of skills as part of the co-assessment process with the supervising EAL Teacher
Contribute to and maintain student files in a complete, up-to-date manner
Organize instructional materials and resources to support the needs of MLLs
• Assist with organization/management of all curricular areas as directed by the EAL Teacher.
Maintain instructional materials
Prepare, compile, and copy instructional materials
Perform setup and cleanup for instructional projects
• Contribute to management of student’s behavior within and outside the classroom.
Serve as a substitute for EAL Teachers when requested
Utilize positive behavior management strategies to ensure student safety and a sense of belonging
• Understand and exhibit good judgment in interpersonal relations with colleagues, students, and community.
Develop positive rapport with students
Use communication skills and conflict resolution strategies to promote professional relationships with students, colleagues, and leadership
Participate in formal and informal staff meetings
• Demonstrates understanding of rules and regulations covering confidential and sensitive issues.
Handle sensitive and confidential documents, communications, incidents, etc., with due discretion and in a thoughtful and respectful manner
Maintain confidentiality of students’ grades, attendance and behavior records, and files, etc.
• Observes International School of Beijing’s employment guidelines.
Observe designated work hours
Understand and carry out directions from supervisors
Comply with ISB’s guidelines regarding employee dress, conduct, and behavior
Demonstrate safe, ethical, and responsible behavior
Participate in other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services
• Bachelor’s degree with at least two years full-time working experience
• Must be proficient in the English language, both written and spoken
• Experience and/or knowledge of a Western educational setting
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Enthusiasm and willingness to work with children
• Interest and background in language learning is preferable
• Adaptable, flexible, and open to new ideas
• Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
• Adequate technology skills
