Department Summary:

The System and Mission Analysis Department is charged with identifying, developing, and applying new technologies that can address the Government's most challenging Systems Engineering problems.

This is an opportunity for a Systems Engineer who is highly motivated, innovative, and proactive. This position provides challenging opportunities to apply and expand one’s systems architecture, modeling and tradespace analysis skills. Specific areas of interest include practical application of AI, Systems of Systems, architecture modeling, modeling and analysis of complex systems, and decision support.

Responsibilities include:

  • Using your keen understanding of systems and mission engineering and an awareness of sponsor needs to determine areas where MITRE can have an impact

  • Evaluating and comparing alternative architectures using qualitative and quantitative techniques; exploring large tradespaces

  • System Design and development (such as software development), systems modernization, and architecture

  • Articulating major uncertainties associated with systems architectures, defining risks and opportunities associated with the uncertainties

  • Identifying or developing metrics to measure and analyze relevant system properties, such as robustness, resiliency, interoperability, quality, robustness, and maintainability

  • Supporting requirements management, interface management and architecture change management processes

  • Translating analysis results into actionable recommendations for the US Government agencies

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and 8+ years applicable experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to possess and maintain DoD clearance

  • Ability to leverage systems analysis— technical and functional skillsets, maintain relationships with internal and external government representatives.

  • Familiarity with Model Based System Engineering ( MBSE ) tools

  • Proficiency in a least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java) to prototype capabilities and analyze data

  • Interest in complex multi-disciplinary problems

  • Expertise in systems and enterprise architecture

  • Mastery of modern system engineering methods

  • Experience rendering objective evaluation of vendor products and approaches

  • Ingenuity in applying a set of technical skills across multiple subject matter domains such as finance, healthcare and defense

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference given to qualified candidates with an active clearance.

  • Advanced degree in related field of study

  • Experience with multi-disciplinary modeling and simulation (physics-level, engineering-level and/or socio-technical-level)

  • Knowledge of methods for assessing the impacts of emerging technologies on socio-technical enterprises

  • Track record of leadership in SE innovation, research, and publishing

  • Ability to transform state-of-the art in research for application to complex SE problems

  • Demonstrated technical management for SE projects that require cross-disciplinary collaboration
