About This Role:
This position reports to the Director of IT Systems and Cloud Operations as an integral member of the IT Systems and Cloud Operations team. The successful candidate will have the training and skills necessary to install, configure, and maintain both physical and virtual servers that supports services toward Lamar Universities mission. The Systems Administrator will apply technical knowledge in implementing policies for system security, ensuring high availability, and building technological sustainability. This position will provide system services in support of technical and functional teams as requested and will apply knowledge and experience of current trends and technologies to improve and automate business processes. The individual is accountable for the following types of systems: Windows servers, Linux servers, VMware hypervisor, AWS (Amazon Web Services), Azure-hosted services, backups, and restoration monitoring and management systems that support the University infrastructure.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
Install, upgrade, and administer virtual and physical Windows and Linux servers in both VMWare and enterprise data centers.
Apply patches, and updates, and perform backups and restore operations on Windows and Linux servers.
Administer and monitor VMware, Azure, and AWS infrastructure, ensuring proactive problem-solving.
Provide OS and application troubleshooting support, maintain network file shares and manage NFS shares on Linux.
Follow change management procedures, coordinate with vendors, and provide high-quality documentation and reports for management.

Technical proficiency with a strong knowledge of operating systems.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve system failures efficiently.
Understanding of cloud computing models.
Communication Skills that are clear and concise with the ability to explain technical concepts.
Attention to Detail with precision in configuring systems, maintaining security protocols, and documenting processes.
Understanding the basics of TCP /IP networking. · Understanding cyber security concepts such as Authentication, authorization, and encryption.
Physical Requirements: The physical requirements will include prolonged sitting while working at a computer and some heavy lifting due to carrying and moving equipment.Some heavy lifting required.
Job Conditions: Primarily office-based, often in a designated IT department or server room.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a directly related field.
3 years of directly related experience, including two years of Data Center server management.
