About This Role:
Lamar University is seeking a friendly and detail-oriented Customer Service Specialist to join our Enrollment Management team! Reporting to the Director of the Welcome, this role is the first point of contact for students, families, and campus visitors.
Lamar University seeks to recruit students from local and regional high schools and junior colleges by promoting our 200 academic programs and vibrant campus life. The Customer Service Specialist supports this mission by assisting prospective and current students and their families with the various processes and procedures required to enroll at Lamar University.
Key responsibilities include greeting visitors, responding to phone and email inquiries, scheduling tours, and assisting with events. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a passion for helping others, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
Serve as the first point of contact, manage walk-ins, and schedule follow-ups.
Provide in-depth expertise for division programs via phone, email, and chat.
Maintain departmental calendars and manage email accounts with timely responses.
Inform students of missing documents, resolve issues, and refer to campus services.
Update CRM data and oversee digital signage content.
Assist leadership with planned events and prospective student events.
Oversee phone systems, email accounts, and other communication tools.
Ensure smooth daily operations and system maintenance within Enrollment Services.
Conduct customer satisfaction surveys, prepare reports, and perform other assigned tasks.
Serve as a knowledge base for student staff and act as a liaison between admissions and student staff.
Key Competencies:
Experience in customer service, student services, admissions, or a related field
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with students, families, faculty, and staff
Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new software systems quickly
Experience with CRM systems and data management
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Attention to detail and a high level of organization
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information
Willingness to work some evenings and weekends for events
Understanding of FERPA regulations
Ability to assign tasks as needed to student assistants, work study students, seasonal employees, interns and part-time employee
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings.

Minimum Qualifications
HSD or GED required
1 year of administrative experience required
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Ability to compose effective correspondence
