WSP USA Senior Geochemist in BC, Canada

The Opportunity:

WSP has a new opportunity for a Senior/Principal Geochemist to join our Mine Water & Environment team on a full-time basis based in Vancouver/Calgary/Edmonton/Western Canada. The selected candidate will support and lead geochemistry-related projects and proposal efforts with an emphasis on the mining and construction industries in Canada and globally. Projects typically involve material characterization, permitting, baseline studies, operational support, and reclamation/remediation.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Bringing your talents, training, enthusiasm, and solution-oriented focus to work as a valued and respected member of our multi-disciplinary team of professionals as we tackle some of the world’s most challenging environmental problems and deliver some of the world’s most innovative and relevant solutions;

  • From day one you'll be contributing to the business and technical mission of a multi-disciplinary team environment within Mine Environment and related technical discipline groups;

  • You will be a technical lead responsible for the technical approach and technical review of deliverables;

  • Contribute to, and lead, multi-disciplinary proposals to bring in a diverse range of projects to WSP;

  • You will be responsible for leading a technical team that will undertake summarizing and interpreting datasets, statistical analysis, and preparing written and graphical material for mission critical deliverables;

  • You will supervise early and mid career staff to ensure the implementation of quality assurance/quality control measures applicable to the task;

  • Oversee geochemical characterization studies of mine wastes (ore, waste rock, gases, and water), radiological assessments, and other environmental investigations with support from early and mid career professionals;

  • Oversee the delivery of reports to clients from concept to review and submission;

  • Responsibility for the technical lead of conceptual model development and supporting data management and interpretation;

  • Demonstrating a “Safety-First” focus and always ensure health and safety policies are followed at all sites where you undertake project work.

What you'll bring to WSP…

  • A degree in Geochemistry, Geoscience or Geology, Geological Engineering, Hydrogeology, Hydrology or related fields;

  • 10+ years work experience in geochemical assessments within natural or mine-affected sites;

  • Registered as a Professional Geologist or eligibility for professional registration as a Registered Professional Geologist or other applicable professional regulatory body within 6 months of starting;

  • Project management experience and experience reporting on material characterization, mine permitting and/or water quality modelling;

  • Understanding of environmental chemistry, geology, and mineralogy to support material characterization studies relating to mine operations;

  • Excellent client interaction skills;

  • Ability to develop and lead certain aspects of a business strategy related to geochemistry;

  • Excellent organizational and communications skills;

  • Strong quantitative skills;

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;

  • Passion for working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team environment;

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and innovative thinking skills are essential;

  • Enthusiastic about generating innovative solutions to challenging environmental and geoscience problems;

  • A leader in health and safety and willing to support and promote safe working across all projects.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $84,200 - $143,100
