Humana is seeking an accomplished leader for the role of Director, Operational and Strategic Excellence to join our team. This high impact leader will play a pivotal role in supporting the Sr. Leader in the development, implementation, and execution of the company's strategic goals and operational initiatives. Employing adroit interpersonal skills, a high degree of strategic and operational expertise, a strong sense of urgency, and the ability to create consensus across the highest level of leadership, this leader will play a critical role in advancing our business through leading a portfolio of strategic and operational initiatives. This role is a strategic position that will help shape the direction of the Leadership Team while ensuring we deliver operational discipline and efficiency.

This position requires a strategic thinker with exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills, who could potentially lead a team of 1-5 direct reports to help deliver this critical work. They will serve as a trusted advisor and will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the organizations priorities, ensuring alignment across the organization, and driving key projects to successful completion. This leader must be a strong enterprise collaborator who works to provide effective and innovative solutions for top organizational and business priorities.

Strategic Planning and Execution: Translate the vision into action and ensure seamless implementation across departments.

  • Collaborate with cross functional leaders to develop, define, implement, drive to completion large scale strategic priorities, facilitate cross functional collaboration to ensure alignment on key initiatives and remove roadblocks

  • Own the progress of strategic initiatives for Insurance Operations and drive accountability within the segment

  • Own critical objectives for the organization ensuring key outcomes expected are clear within the organization and with partners

  • Drives alignment across the organization & with partners ensuring highest use and ROI of resources thru development of clear goals and measures that focus on outcome vs. activity

Horizontal Operational Initiatives: Accountable for leading a portfolio of strategic initiatives across the lines of business, working collaboratively with executive leadership and across divisions and across functions.

  • Builds and leverages relationships to provide innovative solutions to complex business problems, performing advanced analyses to uncover operational efficiencies across the various

  • operating units. Using these insights, has full discretion to go after problems and define solutions across each function

  • Identify and mitigate risks to operational efficiency and effectiveness through initiative planning

  • Lead cross-functional teams on high-impact projects, ensuring alignment with the company's objectives

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of key initiatives and projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget

  • Oversee a team that tracks project milestones, deliverables, and KPIs, and provide regular progress reports to the Sr. Leader for appointed programs, initiatives, and projects

Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization with the goal of advancing the leader’s vision and agenda.

  • Help break through any roadblocks, resolve issues and escalate where needed, employing exceptional organizational savvy

  • Coordinate and manage the flow of information between the Sr. Leader and other senior leaders, creating consensus and managing all stakeholders Represent the Sr. Leader in meetings and engagements with internal and external stakeholders with needed delegated decisions rights to ensure progression of priorities

Governance and Framework:

  • Acts as an extension of the CPO Leader in meetings, decision-making processes, and daily operations

  • Develop and implement governance frameworks and tools to improve efficiency and accountability across the organization

  • Hold team accountable for the leadership operating framework for the organization to drive team effectiveness, strengthen culture and drive consistency and organizational health.

  • Enable leadership team discussions and business reviews to ensure effective utilization of time and drive accountability and transparency across the organization

  • Strong financial and business acumen; ability to integrate a business perspective across the enterprise

  • Excellent relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

  • Works well under high pressure situations, and comfortable dealing with and handling highly confidential information

  • Ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver difficult messages to senior leaders

Use your skills to make an impact

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Direct experience consulting with coaching, and supporting executive level leaders

  • People leadership

  • Experience with organizational change management

  • Proven track record of managing complex enterprise projects and driving organizational change

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Reside in the Louisville, KY area

  • MBA or other advanced degree

  • Strong working knowledge of the businesses and teams across Humana

Additional Information

  • Workstyle: Hybrid Home - This is a hybrid home position where employees primarily work from their home office, occasionally using company office space for collaboration and face-to-face needs.

  • Typical Work Days/Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm EST.

  • Travel: 20-25% to meet business needs

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$168,000 - $231,000 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
