Summary Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and computerized numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.
Tool Room Machinist I All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform with guidance and training during the first few years of employment. There will be some positions that will continue to be this level when set ups and adjustments are not made by the employee.
Tool Room Machinist II All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform at a confident proficient level in 2 or more years of experience. This would include setting up and making adjustments with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Regular and punctual attendance is required
- Overtime hours may be required, if needed
- Fabricate special jigs, fixtures and tools for in-house use.
- Uses blueprints, sketches, manuals, verbal descriptions, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Selects appropriate machines, fixtures, tools and accessories required to successfully and efficiently produce the assigned or requested part(s).
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut. Enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
- Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
- Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
- Develops specifications from general description and when appropriate draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
- Confers with engineers, production personnel, or others to resolve machining, specifications and tolerance questions.

Education and/or Experience
Associate\'s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with an emphasis in machine shop or tool and die; or a minimum of one year related experience and/or hands on training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra, geometry and trigonometry as they relate to machining variables.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions fu
