HOUSING PROGRAM MANAGER

JOB DESCRIPTION

(Full-time)

The Maine MultiCultural Center (MMCC) is a nonprofit organization formed in 2016 to help make Bangor a welcoming place for all. To date MMCCs work has been dependent on the volunteer efforts of its Board of Directors and of the members of its various standing committees. MMCC is now seeking its first full-time Housing Program Manager who will work closely with the Executive Director and the Volunteer Program Manager to manage MMCCs housing related programs.

MMCC works to promote community and economic growth by attracting, retaining, supporting, and integrating people of diverse cultures and backgrounds to the greater Bangor community.

MMCC employs two basic strategies to achieve its mission: 1) community outreach and education to help create a hospitable environment for new Mainers and to celebrate the diversity that already exists within the community; and 2) referral services that assist new Mainers in accessing the resources and training they need to successfully integrate into the community.

This is a grant funded position whose continuation beyond the current funding period is dependent upon successful funding renewal.

Duties

Manage Donations:

Monitor donation intake form each working day and respond to offers of donations.

Coordinate pick-up of donations

Recruit volunteers for donation pick-ups and housing move-ins

Reserve truck and other equipment as needed for donation pick-ups

Maintain inventory of donated furnishings and housewares

Maintain storage unit in orderly condition

Coordinate housing move-ins

Reserve truck and other equipment as needed for move-in

Determine items needed for each move

Arrange for purchase of needed items that are not already on hand

Box up kitchen & bathroom items and bedding in preparation for each move

Coordinate key and bed pickup with CCM Site Manager

Assemble and direct crew of move-in volunteers

Oversee cleaning, bed making, & furniture arrangement at move-in site

Contribute to the development of MMCCs housing strategy

Participate in the formulation of MMCCs policy & procedures with respect to access to safe and affordable housing for immigrants

Identify and maintain relationships with area landlords

Provide guidance to voluntary migrants and asylum seekers seeking housing

Represent MMCC at meetings focused on housing issues

Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing volunteers

Familiarity with and commitment to upholding diversity, equity, and inclusion principles

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Familiarity with Microsoft and Google office tools

Excellent time management skills, including timely submission of project reports

Collaborative work style and proven ability to develop productive partnerships

Experience working with groups of people from diverse backgrounds otherthan own

Fluency in a foreign language a plus

Reports to the MMCC Executive Director.
