The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Office of Sponsored Projects Accounting and Compliance (SPAC)is currently seeking aSponsored Projects Financial Analyst (Analyst, Sponsored Projects Accounting & Compliance). All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland. * *Primary Duties: * Perform mid-level review and analysis of accounting transactions to ensure completeness, accuracy, and conformance with uniform accounting principles and practices. * Maintain performance compliance with University policies and procedures regarding internal, business, fiscal, and operational accountability and compliance. * Ensure accounts are in agreement and identify variances. Investigate discrepancies to determine cause and document correction. * Work with principal investigators, faculty, or staff members to identify potential ledger discrepancies between financial system and SPAC records. * Receive, analyze, and prepare various internal/external financial ledgers, schedules, exhibits and summaries along with any assigned databases utilized for financial reporting. * Ensure details of financial transactions are recorded in journals, ledgers, and automated system by others. * Prepare, and analyze all information needed to complete federal final reports (FFRs) accurately and in a timely manner. * Follow up with departments to ensure timely return of FFRs. * Assist departments with discrepancies in financial reporting and ensure proper back up for trailing charges from departments. Assist in correspondence with departments to resolve questions and issues. * May perform administrative tasks such as: assist with audit requests, provide backup support assistance to SPAC team, assist with the preparation of ad hoc reports, etc. * Perform other duties as assigned. Education:Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration. Experience:Two (2) years of financial or management accounting, budget, auditing, assessment of internal controls, financial analysis, post-award accounting or lifecycle research administration experience, OR One (1) year of direct sponsored projects accounting. Higher education experience preferred. Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Working knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Ability to apply basic analytical skills; to operate manual and automated office equipment, personal computers, and financial software to input data; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to prepare and present working papers and supporting documentation. Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Mid-level accounting knowledge of grants and contracts preferred.
