Johns Hopkins University Research Technologist in Baltimore, Maryland

We are seeking a Research Technologist who will work closely with faculty to manage, analyze, and communicate data and software, and will help with analysis and publication efforts. Perform analyses using bioinformatics and computational techniques and concepts.

This will involve communicating with statisticians, biologists and clinicians, and will use publicly available tools as well as bioinformatics and analysis tools developed in-house. This individual must keep current with published literature and new developments and technologies.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consults with statistical investigators to determine their needs with respect to algorithm development for analysis of high-throughput genomics data in collaboration with other Research Assistants and postdocs.

  • Maintain and implement R code for packages for analysis of the various genomics data generated from single cell and spatial omics sequencing platform.

  • Carries out appropriate methodologic procedures for biologically informed, statistically driven analysis of high-dimensional genomics data.

  • Participates in regularly scheduled meetings with study investigators and team.

  • Prepares progress reports and helps with publication as needed.

  • Prepares Maintain appropriate systems for software development.

Equipment, Machine, or Tool Requirements

  • Experience with computers and servers and knowledge of Linux/UNIX as well as other common operating systems such as Mac OS and Windows is necessary.

  • Programming in R, C++. Experience developing and maintaining Bioconductor packages and with version control systems such as Git.

  • Ability to use the internet and web-based scholarly search engines.

Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities / Competencies

  • Proficiency with bioinformatics concepts, methods, and tools, with experience working in languages such as R, C++, Perl or Python.

  • Experience with Bioconductor packages.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills in consulting with researchers and understanding their problems.

  • Excellent writing and verbal skills in the preparation and presentation of reports.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details are required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.

  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Bioengineering, Statistics, Computer Science Bioinformatics, Applied mathematics or related field.

  • Experience in R/C++/Python.

  • Experience with Linux/UNIX.

Starting Salary Range: Min $15.50 - Max $26.00 HRLY ($42,432 budgeted; Commensurate with experience)
