Johns Hopkins University Research Data Analyst in Baltimore, Maryland

The Johns Hopkins Center for Safe and Healthy Schools (CSHS) is a leading research and public-informing initiative that advances the safety, equity, and health of educational institutions throughout the pre-school to postsecondary continuum. The Data Transparency and Equity in Policing (DTEP) unit at CSHS is seeking two Research Data Analysts to provide project management, research, and analytic support. DTEP will partner with the Office of the Vice President for Public Safety to collect data regarding the implementation, operations, and impact of the newly established Johns Hopkins Police Department on JHU campuses and Baltimore communities.

Positions are full-time, hybrid (2 days a week in the office) post based in Baltimore.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement data collection systems, research designs, and protocols for the collection of data.

  • Prepare and maintain evolving analytic datasets suitable for primary, secondary, and multi-study comprehensive analyses.

  • Merge data and create and recode variables to prepare data for analyses.

  • Work with the study team to determine appropriate statistical methods and conduct analyses.

  • Create codebooks and write technical memos that document data processing decisions and summarize the quality of data.

  • Create limited and de-identified datasets for sharing with other researchers as needed.

  • Produce publication-quality tables and figures, and associated interpretations, adhering to reproducible research standards.

  • Collaborate with the study team to produce scholarly products including but not limited to reports for scientific, lay, and policy audiences summarizing study findings and progress, scientific manuscripts for publication, and presentations and reports.

  • Successfully collaborate with cross-disciplinary members of study teams.

  • Ensure data integrity and compliance with security policies governed by FERPA and HIPAA and the Johns Hopkins IRB.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrate organization, curiosity, problem solving, resourcefulness, and flexibility.

  • An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities.

  • Knowledge of the following software/statistical packages.

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite required.

  • Proficiency in Stata, SAS, R, or another statistical package required.

  • Proficiency in ArcGIS strongly preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.

  • Three years related experience.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Demography, Evaluation, Measurement, Quantitative Methods, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or a related field preferred.

  • Experience working on a diverse team.

  • Experience working with different communication styles.

Classified Title: Research Data Analyst

Role/Level/Range: ACRP/04/MC

Starting Salary Range: Min $47,500 - Max $83,300 Annually ($70,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
