The University of Maryland School of Medicine – Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health (CVD)is currently recruiting for aResearch Administrator. This role will be responsible for full lifecycle research administration. The ideal candidate will have pre-award experience. Half will be paid following 30 days of satisfactory service at UMB, and half will be paid upon successful completion of probation.Current UMB employees are not eligible for the sign-on bonus./ *Primary Duties: * Provide expert direction for CVD faculty and staff by balancing pre-award proposals application and/or submissions. * Provide subject matter guidance for all federal, non-federal sponsored research, industry sponsored research and private foundation sponsored research. * Ensure department grants and contracts comply with all federal and state legal requirements, other sponsor requirements to include industry and private foundation, and UMB policies prior to review by the Office of Research & Development (UMB Sponsored Project Administration – SPA). * Working knowledge of NDA, CDA’s and other research agreements to guide faculty whilst providing communication between sponsor and UMB. * Assist with the development and implementation of policy statements and annual project plans. Provide direction for operational aspects of contracts and grant management business operation matters. * Provides management with ad hoc reports. * Manage the preparation and review of new grant and contract budgets and applications. Finalize documents for submission. * Validate proposal error or warnings within UMB System to System proposal submission, to include federally provided ASSIST submission system. Additional working knowledge of industry and other sponsored funding submission processes based on funding opportunity announcement. * Knowledgeable in all funding mechanisms. Provide guidance on staffing and budgetary requirements. * Prepare, review, interpret, communicate, and ensure sponsor guidelines comply and eligibility information is defined within proposals. Interact directly with sponsor representatives to clarify ambiguous terms and conditions, and to request supplemental funding, no cost extensions, and other administrative requests. * Identify issues and independently resolve and assist others in issue resolution as needed. Anticipate roadblocks and be able to independently resolve. * Manage all grants submitted including tracking individual faculty grant histories, success rates by agency, and providing faculty with historical perspectives. * Identify issues and independently resolve and assist others in issue resolution as needed. Review and interpret funding guidelines and regulations and advise faculty as to policies and procedures of those agencies. Identify future funding opportunities and work with PI to identify components. * Develops timeline to meet submission deadlines and checklist of required documents and adjusts timeline to adapt to change. * Consult with PI to translate program requirements into contract terms. Identify, develop, and ensure contract requirements contain quantifiable specification and measurable performance criteria. Validate the performance criteria will meet the requirements. * Provide direction in definition of partnership. Establish review criteria to understand if partnership is a vendor vs. subcontract. * Performs other duties as assigned. Education:Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred. Experience:Six (6) years progressively building research administrative background with at least four (4) years in full life-cycle research administration. Preferred Experience:Demonstrated experience in pre-award proposals and administration. Supervisory Experience:One (1) year of work coordination or training of others preferred. Preferred Certification/Licensure:Certified Research Administrator. Other:Financial disclosure reporting required by State of Maryland Ethics Commission. Completion of a 12 credit Research Administration graduate certificate program can be considered for the equivalent of one (1) year of relevant research administration work experience.
