Robinson, MD, Endowed Professorship in Health Professions Education (HPE). Faculty appointments are non-tenure, long- term, renewable contracts. Robinson, MD Endowed Professorship in Health Professions Education at the Graduate School to support the University’s commitment to excellence in health professions education and research.Named in honor of Dr. Leslie S Robinson, an internal medicine physician in Baltimore with an appointment in the School of Medicine, the endowed professor will hold a research leadership role the Graduate School’s PhD andM.S. in Health Professions Education(HPE). The incumbent will take the lead in the acceleration of the HPE program research enterprise into a future cycle of growth, innovation, and expansion. The focal roles of the endowed professorship will be to internationally advance the UMB Graduate School health professions program, develop health professions educators’ practices rooted in educational evidence, increase enrollment of HPE graduate students, and establish the program as a preeminent contributor to health profession education research, scholarship, and innovation. The individual in this position is expected to commit at least half-time effort to research mentorship (including additional effort toward their own research projects) and teaching. The endowed professorship will play a pivotal role in addressing challenges of healthcare faculty workforce shortages and improve capacity in Maryland as a key leader in health professions educational research and scholarship.The Health Professions Education (HPE) Program offers both aPhD (Doctorate in Philosophy) andMS (Master of Science) degree and post-baccalaureate certificate programs (PBCs; Fall 2023). UMB is known for its expertise in health, biomedical sciences, and human services and is uniquely positioned to apply principles of innovation and entrepreneurship to advance health and social equality. UMB seeks to understand the community served through the creation of innovative solutions based on people’s actual needs. Responsibilities * Oversee the HPE research enterprise and thedevelopment of HPE scholarship and innovation by its faculty and learners. * Securing educational grant funding through public and private sources/agencies. * Lead HPE program scholarship activities to increase national and international recognition of scholarship generated by HPE faculty and learners. * Develop collaborative and interprofessional research opportunities within the HPE program, across disciplinary boundaries, and across schools at UMB. * Sustain an independent program of research scholarship resulting in peer-reviewed publication and presentations. * Teach in the HPEPhD Program, prepare online course materials following the standardized instructional design process established by the GraduateSchool and facilitated by instructional designers in the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL). * Provide feedback, guidance, and mentoring to HPE learners culminating in a dissertation or original educational, leadership, or instructional scholarship. * Mentor and advise doctoral HPE learners on scholarly research projectsthat lead to peer-reviewedpublications/dissertations and collaborative grant /funding applications. * Participate in HPE program activities, including orientation, selection committees, doctoral committees, impact institutes (weeklong, in-person, intensive, project development and research presentation weeks), and office-hours, asneeded. * Participate in professional, university, and departmental serviceactivities to advance UMB’s mission. * Represent UMB, the HPE program, and the Graduate School at national meetingsand organizations and through the dissemination of high-qualityresearch. * Contribute to an environment that inspires, recognizes, and rewards educational scholarship, teaching, and innovation in at UMB, to stimulate the intellectual discourse needed to reimagine professional and graduate student education for the future. * Develop and make available resources, such as faculty development programs, which will help advance the career path for educators at UMB, across professions. * Provide faculty new to educational research, guidance, and collaboration on completing educational grant applications through UMB’s educator academies, such as Leaders in Education: Academy of Presidential Scholars (LEAPS), which seeks to advance educators. * Provides workshops, tutorials, or short courses on instructional practice and conducting educational research through UMB’s educator academies. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative methods and analysis; record of accomplishment in research, advising, teaching, and otherscholarship in health professions education. Current licensure in one’s principle professional field (if applicable) and online teaching experience required. Minimum Education: Minimum ofPh.D. orEd.D. in social/behavioral science, education, educational psychology, health professions education, psychometrics/statistics in education, evaluation and assessment, or similar field, plus substantial experience in an academic/ research environment. Minimum Experience:10 or more years as academic faculty in professional discipline as demonstrated by research expertise, publications, mentorship, and national achievements in HPE, including receipt of educational funding. Prior experience in a leadership role within an HPE program and evidence of rigorous peer-reviewed health professions education research.
