Robert Half International Finance Director in Baltimore, Maryland

This Finance Director / Controller will be responsible for the financial and operational performance and sustainability of an affordable housing rental portfolio and related community programs. This person will be responsible for supervising a small team and playing a hands-on role in month-end financial reporting, related journal entries and account reconciliations, budgeting and flux analysis, supporting the annual audit process, capital requests, grant spending and reporting, portfolio performance, overseeing payroll, and collaborating with operational managers on financial performance. This role will report to a CFO who is not local to the area, and will need to be able to work autonomously with little direct supervision. This role also has the ability to be partially remote and only come into the office 1-2 days a week if not based in the immediate area, however must be commutable to Baltimore as needed.

What will you do on a daily / monthly basis:

  • Month-end close, account reconciliations, adjusting entries, intercompany entries, etc.

  • Multi-entity monthly financial statement preparation

  • Budget analysis and provide management with fluctuations and trends

  • Support and review internal and external audits

  • Direct and lead staff on month-end close and grant accounting

  • Work in collaboration with corporate and external resources

  • Make recommendations for improvement of operating plans

  • Prepare capital and asset management projections

  • Collaborate with Executive Director and CFO

  • Monitor performance of the entire portfolio

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulations

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related. CPA preferred.

  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant work experience and 2+ years of supervisory

  • Expertise in GAAP accounting, financial reporting, budgeting

  • Experience in non-profit / grant accounting or residential property management / affordable housing

  • Excellent communication, organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills

  • Proficient with Excel and ERP systems

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines
