Function Overview Summary

The Technical & Quality Manager reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for the Quality and Process Engineering functions related to the Glass Mat production lines to achieve optimum manufacturing performance. The Technical & Quality Manager is responsible for all analytical and process related initiatives at the plant. This includes ensuring compliance with product specifications, product quality, raw materials, safety and environmental. Also works to enhance our customer’s glass mat experience so that collectively we are better today in the areas of safety, quality, and delivered cost. Provides support and resources to all departments to ensure that safety, quality, customer, cost control and employee engagement goals are achieved.

Essential Duties

Provides technical support to operating departments in statistical applications, process capability assessment, and problem-solving. Coordinates all plant technical support activities as required and participates on project teams to improve existing processes and raw material handling systems. Captures and implements manufacturing “best practices”; ensures root cause analysis using the six building blocks.

● U nderstands the needs of internal and external customers, then translates and implements these requirements into total manufacturing support, including product/process improvements.

Supports Quality Assurance, Production, Maintenance, Purchasing and Accounting needs by developing and maintaining accurate process standard databases. Manages and develops systems that audit the quality of finished goods and raw materials. Maintains a high level of technical reporting, including in-depth analysis of changes in plant operating conditions with identified results achieved. Develops the bill of materials on all products and determines the machine capability and enhancements for each product.

Oversees all process improvement, raw materials, and new products trials including pre-trial coordination, trial execution, product change over, post-trial testing, and trial report. Develops a thorough understanding of the raw material for BOM planning and year over year improvements. Collaborates with plant operations and customers the fitness for use requirements for both incoming and finished materials.

Manages quality department personnel through development plans and growth opportunities. Supports their job function responsibilities as needed. Oversees systematic evaluation of the glass mat process that leads to modified techniques, improved quality and reduced cost. Develops innovative improvements to programs, processes, and process designs, and evaluates those that require capital to implement. Then systematically determines where continuous improvement principles may be applied. In some cases may manage project implementation.

This position has 5 direct reports and oversees the product bill of materials and trial budget.

  • Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds

Under This Roof, We Require

BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical) required; BS degree in Chemical Engineering preferred

Minimum of (5) years’ engineering experience in a continuous process environment required

Minimum of (3) years in a leadership role

Must have experience in a high volume manufacturing operations, preferably continuous web process, e.g. Pulp and Paper, as well as physical lab testing operation and development of lab test procedures.

Annual Salary Range: 130,500-166,750
