Amentum Vehicle Maintenance Manager in Baghdad, Iraq

The Vehicle Maintenance Manager will be based at one of Amentum sites in Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. This position will be responsible for direct oversight and management responsibility for maintenance and repair operations of a large fleet of DOS assets. This responsibility includes light and heavy vehicles, construction equipment, cranes, graders, ATVs, and material handling equipment. This position will report to the Site Services Manager. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

DUTIES:

  • Support the integration of the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) program throughout operations to safeguard employees and foster an environment where everyone is a safety champion.

  • Provide expertise and oversight to detailed work and dispatch schedules in accomplishment of vehicle maintenance and motor pool services.

  • Coordinate with appropriate POC to schedule vehicle maintenance and dispatch.

  • Ensure daily work schedules for approximately twenty local national, foreign national and American national employees to include drivers, mechanics, and parts clerks are adequate for contract requirements.

  • Review work schedules to ensure adequate coverage for vehicle maintenance operations.

  • Ensure employee performance appraisals are submitted as required.

  • Ensure adequate spare parts, tools, machines, and supplies are available. Establish reorder levels for expendable items.

  • Establish and monitor parts room inventory controls.

  • Ensure accurate time and material accounting is entered on completed work requests.

  • Ensure adequate instructions and trained personnel are available for disposal and control of hazardous waste generated by motor pool operations.

  • Ensure that vehicle maintenance employees attend, participate, and are compliant with all safety program trainings.

  • Ensure safety equipment and supplies are available, in good working order and employees receive required training to utilize equipment.

  • Provide required, detailed reports to the Operations Manager, GSO motor pool, facilities management and additional government entities as required.

  • Take the lead in identifying and mitigating risk in the workplace.

  • Leading ethically and efficiently.

  • Set and clearly communicate vision and goals for employees under your leadership.

  • Communicate feedback and direction clearly.

  • Support team and chain of command with decision-making.

  • Mentor and coach employees under your leadership to expected or above and beyond performance standards.

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum Acceptable Experience Level: Ten (10) years’ experience as a vehicle mechanic and five (5) years’ experience as supervisor of a mixed crew of mechanics, drivers, and parts/inventory clerks.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of automotive HVAC diagnosis and repair.

  • Advanced knowledge of maintenance, supply principals, and support systems for material handling and heavy equipment.

  • Experience in the maintenance of large fleets to include procurement of spare parts.

  • Knowledge of safety precautions related to maintenance of heavy equipment.

  • Possess excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in vehicle maintenance functions at an overseas facility.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.

  • Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.

  • Computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team.

  • Ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.

  • Must have a leadership mentality and lead a team of professionals towards excellence in service deliverance.

  • Education: A high school diploma or GED.

  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid drivers’ license.

  • Security Vetting: Already possess a US Government issued security clearance or Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or be able to obtain a favorable MRPT certification or US Government clearance prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.

  • Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.

  • Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.

DESIRED:

  • General Motors (GM) and/or Toyota certifications.

  • Working knowledge of Maximo and FleetMate and/or other comparable ERP software.

  • Previous out of home country experience is highly desirable and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus.

  • Experience working with Amentum.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:

This position may be located in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120-130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
