Amentum Generator Mechanic, Lead in Baghdad, Iraq

Generator Mechanic, Lead (AN)

The Generator Mechanic, Lead will be based at one of Amentum sites in Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of operating spot generators, standby generators, portable generators, and light carts. This position will report directly to the site Power Plant Supervisor. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

DUTIES:

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.

  • Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.

  • Operate, maintain, and repair operating spot generators, standby generators, portable generators, and light towers.

  • Be familiar with and use the appropriate supply systems, inventory control procedures, and hazardous material/waste management procedures.

  • Be Microsoft Windows and MS Office knowledgeable in programs such as EXCEL.

  • Complete relevant equipment maintenance records in digital platforms such as MAXIMO and GMMS.

  • Perform maintenance on coolant, lube oil and fuel systems (fuel polishing).

  • Perform repair and service inspection audits as required.

  • Respond to 24-hour emergency call outs if required.

  • Experienced at leading generator maintenance teams.

  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum Acceptable Experience Level: Ten (10) years’ experience in electrical spot-generation based, prime power equipment, maintenance and repair.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of a variety of diesel generator engine models.

  • Strong understanding of power generation, engine maintenance, and minor overhauls; operational safety, structured generator and component engine maintenance programs.

  • Understanding of manufacturers’ technical publications and wiring diagrams, technique of operating and maintaining internal combustion engines; power plant generators use of multipurpose test equipment; safety rules and practices, to include environmental policies.

  • Principles of operating 2000 KVA and smaller Diesel Engines to include: Caterpillar, Cummins, Mitsubishi, and FG Wilson Power Generation Engines.

  • Understand and interpret technical documents.

  • Effectively troubleshoot engine malfunctions.

  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

  • Lift heavy objects, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, walk, and stand for prolonged periods of time.

  • Understand the basic principle of Combustion Engines.

  • Understand and comply with ESH standards.

  • Perform effectively in austere environment.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely to supervision and management.

  • Clean work area after work has been performed.

  • Understands basic weights and measures.

  • Can perform simple calculations, both mathematical and electrical.

  • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in supporting contract responsibilities at an overseas facility.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.

  • Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team.

  • Must have the ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.

  • Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.

  • Drivers’ License from Home of Record.

  • Education: A high school diploma, GED or certified technical institute training.

  • Licenses and Certifications: None required.

  • Security Vetting: Already possess a US Government issued security clearance or Secret Clearance or be able to obtain a favorable Secret Clearance certification or US Government clearance prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.

  • Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.

  • Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.

DESIRED:

  • College or technical courses in a related field.

  • Previous out of home country experience is highly desirable and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus.

  • Experience working with PAE/ Amentum.
