Amentum Concrete & Masonry Specialist in Baghdad, Iraq

The Concrete & Masonry Specialist will be based at one of the PAE sites in Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services contract in support of the U.S Department of State. This position will report to the LCC Management Team. The selected candidate will be responsible for masonry requirements on small construction, remodeling or renovation projects. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work but are not necessarily all inclusive.

DUTIES:

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.

  • Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.

  • Repair, maintain and alter buildings.

  • Mix mortar lay bricks and/or concrete sidewalks.

  • Make and repair steps.

  • Match and/or replace brick or stonework chimneys.

  • Install and repair tile floors and/or walls.

  • Plaster ceilings and/or walls.

  • Handle carpentry work incidental to masonry work.

  • Be proficient with concrete masonry and finishing, to include:

  • Smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures.

  • Using hand tools or power tools, including floats, trowels, and screeds, directing and operating a concrete truck.

  • Spreading concrete into inaccessible sections of forms, using rake or shovel.

  • Leveling concrete to specified depth and workable consistency.

  • Finishing concrete surfaces, using power trowel, or wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish.

  • Removing rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces.

  • Molding expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.

  • Potentially specialize in finishing steps and stairways and be designated Step Finisher (construction).

  • Potentially break up and repair old concrete surfaces, using pneumatic tools.

  • Potentially produce colored or textured finishes by adding colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish.

  • In addition, the candidate may be required to: -

  • Perform mathematical calculations associated with concrete pours, sizing of rebar and installation of rebar.

  • Perform inspections and prepares written reports.

  • Maintain effective, timely and respectful communication and interaction with other employees, manager, and supports other organizations

  • Performs other administrative tasks when directed, including material ordering, inventory, work scheduling and other administrative report preparation.

  • Must be able to take initiative to analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications, safety and schedule.

  • Assists other trade personnel as required.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Transports various items to job site.

  • Works under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods.

  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum Acceptable Experience Level: Six (6) years’ comparable experience at the Journeyman level as mason or trade school training in concert repair and new concert construction.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of all principles and processes involved in supporting contract responsibilities at an overseas facility.

  • Ability to work unsupervised and use initiative when necessary. Deal with conflicting priorities calmly and effectively

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Professional software with MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, and Internet Explorer.

  • Experience providing excellent customer services.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.

  • Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team.

  • Must have the ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.

  • Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.

  • Education: A high school diploma (or equivalent). A vocational diploma in masonry or completion of an Apprentice program with a Journeyman certificate is preferred.

  • Passport, Licenses and Certifications:

  • As part of pre-contingency requirements, by the time the visa process starts , candidates must possess a valid passport with a minimum of 18 months remaining to expiration date with 8 blank pages.

  • Valid drivers’ license

  • Security Vetting: Already possess a US Government issued security clearance Secret or be able to obtain a favorable Secret US Government clearance prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.

  • Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.

  • Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.

DESIRED:

  • Previous concrete work experience in an OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.

  • Relevant overseas contract experience.

  • Experience working with Amentum / PAE.

  • Experience working with SOW, shop drawings and blueprints.

  • Driving license from home country or ability to get PAE permit in-country.

  • Documented experience using equipment such as forklift or “skid-steer” loader such as a Bobcat.

  • Previous out of home country experience is highly desirable and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus.
