GENERAL DESCRIPTION Summer Internships are available at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV). The Summer Internship positions are available to students enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college, university, or technical school.Summer Internships are paid, full-time, temporary employment positions that begin no earlier than May 15, 2025 and end no later than August 31, 2025. This Summer Internship position will be in the Office of General Counsel Division (OGC). This position performs or assists with legal assistant work, including implementing the TxDMV records retention policy; identifying confidential documents and processing them accordingly; researching, analyzing, drafting and revising legal documents; and administrative duties, including making photocopies, scanning and filing documents, and processing mail. The Summer Intern will gain experience with the requirements of the Public Information Act and the state records retention laws and rules, and with providing support for attorneys practicing administrative law in Texas. Works under direct supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and some independent judgment. This is an in-person position at the TxDMV Headquarters at 4000 Jackson Avenue, Austin, Texas 78731, with no opportunity for remote work. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Assists the Records Management Officer with ensuring compliance with applicable records management statutes and administrative rules. Drafts, reviews, prepares and/or edits pleadings, motions, briefs, petitions, notices, orders, legal correspondence, and other documents. Proofreads attorney work product. Checks citations, quotations, footnotes, and references for accuracy. Performs administrative duties, including making photocopies, processing mail, and scanning and filing documents. Assists with responding to public information requests. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Skill in understanding and processing information. Skill in the use of office equipment, computers, and applicable software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to copy-edit documents for grammar, formatting, spelling, and accuracy. Qualifications: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Currently enrolled or graduated within the past 12 months from an accredited college, university, vocational, trade, or technical school with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. At least 18 years of age Eligible to work in the United States We will require an official transcript to be provided to Human Resources for review prior to starting wi h TxDMV. Preferred Requirements: Experience with or knowledge of processing public information responses for a Texas state agency. Experience with or knowledge of corporate or governmental records retention processes. Experience with or knowledge of information science, including libraries, records management, or records privacy. Prior paralegal, administrative, or clerical experience, particularly experience working for a Texas state agency. Knowledge of legal research methods and techniques. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 90 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
