The Senior Associate, Project Controls shall report to the senior manager of Project Controls and shall be responsible for managing the project management control system for approximately 8-10 concurrent projects in construction and lighter development pipeline portfolio-level support of up to 40 projects. This position would also be responsible for mentoring more junior analysts on the team.
The Senior Associate, Project Controls is responsible for preparing, analyzing, verifying, and reporting information across areas such as cost, estimating, scheduling, and risk. This role is vital in assessing how these factors influence the overall performance of RWE’s wind, solar, and storage construction projects.
The role is crucial to the effective control and management of RWE's Wind, Solar and Battery energy projects, particularly focusing on leveraging a strong background in data visualization, business intelligence, and project controls, with an ability to effectively manage cost and schedule risks. to ensure successful project delivery amidst managing concurrent projects
Role Responsibilities :
Power BI Development
Design, develop, and deploy business intelligence solutions using Power BI to transform raw data into informative visuals and reports. create automated portfolio level reports and dashboard to that provide clear visualizations of project performance metrics to to support business alignment and ensure alignment with RWECE strategic Goals.
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions accordingly.
Cost Control, Risk, and Analysis
Conduct comprehensive analysis of project performance and variances, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement
Use analytical skills to evaluate key metrics and anticipate challenges, ensuring they are addressed proactively
Analyze root causes, uncover both risks and opportunities, and document lessons learned for future optimization
Accurately forecast complex financial cash expenditures and expertly manage accruals with precision
Conduct in-depth performance analysis of actual spend against budget, utilizing advanced analytical tools to provide strategic insights and recommendations
Efficiently creating, monitoring, and implementing purchase, while continuously tracking their progress, and effectively executing them, while adhering to organizational policies and procedures
Project Scheduling
Developing detailed project schedules using scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6)
Breaking down project activities into manageable tasks and defining their dependencies
Creating and updating project timelines, milestones, and critical paths
Monitoring progress against the schedule and identifying potential delays
Communicating schedule updates to project stakeholders
Collaboration and Communication
Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, finance, and other team members across the organization to ensure the accuracy of scheduling and cost data
Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to optimize material costs and delivery schedules
Facilitate communication between stakeholders with regard to schedules, costs, risks, and opportunities
Job Requirements and Experiences:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, accounting, finance, project management, or similar field
MBA a plus but not a requirement
PMP certification preferred, but not a requirement
Equivalent industry certifications or experience will be considered
Minimum of 5 years’ experience with Project Controls Expertise
Demonstrated mastery (minimum 3 years) in advanced planning, scheduling, estimating, resource management, and cost controls, tailored to the complex engineering and construction of power generation facilities, electrical transmission systems, or substations. This includes leading high-stakes projects and making strategic decisions that drive project success. An advanced degree or specialized certifications in a related field are highly beneficial
Minimum 3 years Comprehensive Financial Management Proficiency:
Proven track record of over 3 years in sophisticated budget management, demonstrating the ability to strategically plan and allocate financial resources, monitor and assess budgetary performance, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure financial compliance, all while effectively communicating financial insights to stakeholders and adapting to dynamic business environments
Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space
Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) and Teams
Advanced level Excel experience is required, including pivot tables, financial formulas, troubleshooting, IndexMatch, graphs, etc.)
Primavera P6, Procore, Salesforce, or other CRM and project management tool experience
Minimum 3 years of experience developing solutions in PowerBI, including the use of common DAX patterns and functions
SAP ERP, SQL, Microsoft Fabric experience preferred but not required
Advanced understanding of running analytics for KPIs to drive decision-making on cost controls, approvals of POs, and negotiations
Strong ability to discern high-level topics of importance from detailed data and report in a clear, concise manner to senior leadership
Strong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlines
Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to coordinate on multiple tasks and deliverables among multiple departments
Ability to multi-task, while working independently or as part of a team
Can analyze data to understand, execute, and communicate root causes, variance drivers, risks, and solutions to resolve issues
Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds
This position is a hybrid, 3 days a week office-based role with some travel to other RWECE offices and field locations (<20%)
Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time
Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois is $99,000 - $130,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
