Humana Research Strategy Advancement Lead in Austin, Texas

Through the design and implementation of various types of research studies and the strategic interpretation of data, the mission of Humana Healthcare Research (HHR) is to produce high-quality, actionable evidence and rigorous, peer-reviewed research to improve health outcomes, guide Humana’s strategy, and advance the body of knowledge for the scientific community and society at large. HHR maintains external partnerships with healthcare industry, government, academia and others to produce research important to internal and external stakeholders.

HHR is seeking a Research Strategy Advancement Lead that will play a pivotal role in driving organizational change, foster an agile mindset, and lead operational model transformation initiatives to enable the research team to deliver value efficiently and effectively through people, data, and process improvement opportunities that support impactful research at scale.

As the Strategy Advancement Lead, you will make data-based decisions and provide strategic direction to address business issues and opportunities. You will be responsible for translating the department roadmap into actionable steps and understand the resource alignment to drive towards success. You will lead initiatives to analyze complex business problems and issues using data from internal and external sources. You will bring your own expertise or identify subject matter experts in support of multi-functional efforts to produce recommendations. You will ensure that policies and procedures align with corporate vision. A successful candidate will be familiar with grant policies and regulations to comply with federally funded programs.

  • Ensure compliance of grant funded research. Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures that meet the requirements set forth by the funding agency. Responsible for researching compliance issues and recommending changes that assure compliance with contract obligations. In case of an audit, coordinate with regulators, provide documentation and establish corrective action plans, as needed. Train/coach research staff as needed.

  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies for advancing organizational goals focused around optimizing financial performance, reducing inefficiencies, ensuring compliance and enhancing operational effectiveness. Example projects might include:

  • Optimizing talent pipeline strategy for HHR and Pharmacy team by standardizing HHR’s hiring and onboarding process

  • Establish consistency in pricing across HHR’s lines of business

  • Plan and coordinate academic conference presence and annual research forum (including logistics, and budgets)

  • Evaluate opportunities to use AI in the research process

  • In collaboration with AVP and leaders or HHR team, evaluate new product opportunities and support execution of pilot projects of new products

  • In collaboration with AVP and leaders or HHR team, establish methodologies to determine profitability of projects or business lines

  • Develop, implement and drive annual strategic roadmap planning that support enterprise goals and track quarterly stakeholder progress

  • Develop and present data-driven recommendations to senior leadership, influencing strategic decision-making and aligning improvement initiatives with functional OKRs and organizational goals.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to facilitate communication, transparency, and alignment, and manage expectations

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (5+ years of equivalent experience)

  • Experience with research grant funding process and regulatory compliance in research

  • Experience with financial metrics pertaining to research consulting

  • Experience with strategic advancement and operational model transformation

  • Strong understanding of business end-to-end process, platforms, technologies and best practices

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving transformational initiatives

  • Excellent analytic, problem-solving, and project management skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively, influence stakeholders, and drive results

  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$115,200 - $158,400 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
