The Opportunity

We're looking for a passionate Principal Data Scientist with hands-on predictive modeling experiences and in-depth knowledge of consumer lending products. This person will develop predictive models using machine learning techniques to create analytics tools (e.g. consumer risk scores, recoveries) to surface insights and drive business strategy related to risk identification for Consumer Auto portfolio.

This position will focus on developing predictive models and work with business strategy teams to optimize, coach and develop analytics talent at Ally. The Work Itself

  • Apply advanced statistical or machine learning techniques to develop and execute analytics solutions for account management purposes.
  • Work closely with business partners on opportunity analysis, problem solving and solution delivery for a variety of business problems.
  • Comply with Ally's internal Model Risk Management policies and procedures, and work with the Model Governance and Model Validation teams on model validation, issue remediation, ongoing performance monitoring, and recurring model reviews.
  • Communicate project status, solutions, results and insights to business stakeholders and leadership.

The Skills You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in statistical modeling and machine learning model development.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical and machine learning programming tools such as Python and R.
  • Strong knowledge of data preparation programs such as SQL or Python.
  • Hands-on experience with linear and logistic regression, time series analysis, decision trees, survival analysis, ensemble trees (gradient boosting, random forest) and other quantitative techniques.
  • Degree in quantitative field, such as Statistics, Math, Economics, Engineering or similar field of study (Master's or PhD preferred).
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize complex data into clear action-oriented recommendations for the business.
  • Comfort level with ambiguity and ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to communicate analytical insights clearly and concisely to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience working in financial services industry, especially in collections, loss prevention, and recovery areas, is a plus.

Base Pay Range:

Emerging: 110000

Experienced: 145000

Expert: 180000

Incentive Compensation: This position is eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan
