Work involves installing, replacing, and maintaining electrical systems, apparatus, control panels, fixtures, equipment and other electrical components, to maintain electrical systems and to diagnose and repair operating problems of electrical components. May train others. Work under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Install, repair and maintain electrical systems, apparatus, circuits, and electrical components of high voltage electrical equipment, transformer wiring and distribution panels. 2. Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to electrical outlets, control panels, switches, fixtures and accessories. 3. Replace and reseat brushes on motors, splices wires and cables and adjusts related parts and equipment. 4. Isolate defects in wiring, circuit breakers, fuses, switches, sockets, and other elements, and replace faulty circuit breakers, fuses, switches, sockets, and other elements of electrical systems. 5. Plan and organize assigned work projects and guides and monitors the work of semi-skilled employees. 6. Apply skilled procedures to diagnose and correct the causes of system malfunctions and to verify the integrity and reliability of connections made and of circuits, components and fixtures installed. 7. Document and report completed installations, maintenance and repairs, the supplies, materials and equipment used and work time applied to assigned work orders and projects. 8. Train maintenance employees in electrical procedures and methods and inspect their completed work to assure compliance with established standards and codes. 9. Read vendor brochures, trade periodicals, manuals and other materials and attends training sessions to keep knowledge of technological changes in electrical equipment up-to-date. 10. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies. 11.Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS: Education - Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent plus or including vocational training in electricity and electrical code subjects. Experience Minimum of two (2) years progressively responsible experience in installing, maintaining and repairing complex commercial or industrial electrical systems or equipment.Substitution Note: Additional work experience of the type described may be substituted for the ed cation requirement on a year-for-year basis. Licensure and/or Certification - Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Apprentice Electrician License required. Must possess a valid driver licensefrom state of residence and automobile insurance. Regulatory Knowledge - Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State, and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures. Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code and the NFPA Fire Code. Electrical Knowledge Thorough knowledge of electricity, the principles, practices, materials, equipment, tools, and instruments applicable to the electrical trade in commercial/industrial environments. Thorough knowledge of diagnostic procedures and equipment in determining and correcting root causes of electrical malfunctions. Thorough knowledge of engineering/architectural and schematic drawings of electrical systems and of their symbols. Some knowledge of basic computer electronics. Skill in operating a variety of test instruments, meters and recorders, and hand and power tools applicable to the electrical trade. Ability to calculate and design electrical circuits in compliance with National Electric Code and NFPA Fire Code standards. Ability to read and understand complex engineering, architectural and schematic drawings of electrical systems and to draw such systems in schematic form to document accomplished tasks Interpersonal Skills Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers. Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems. Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Confidentiality and Protected Information Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information. Safety Must be able to work in safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices.
