AT&T Hotel & Conference Center DIRECTOR OF CATERING in Austin, Texas

We are AT&T Hotel and Conference Center located in the heart of UT Campus.

Job Summary

The Director of Catering leads, manages, and coordinates catering sales efforts while assisting in execute items related to the entire operation of the conference. The Director of Sales will also work with Director of Sales and Marketing in setting the annual budget.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in directing the hotel in the development, implementation and achievement of their annual business and market plan objectives.

  • Provide leadership, guidance and assistance relating to the execution of marketing and catering sales functions, policies and standards.

  • Actively participate in the sales process via customer meetings, entertainment and attendance at customer and other relevant industry events.

  • Direct the solicitation efforts of the catering sales staff through effective oral and written communication while providing strategic direction of date and space commitments for catering sales of the property.

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to increase the property’s market share.

  • Directs the preparation of reports pertaining to the operation of the Sales Department to include, but not limited to the annual and monthly Forecast, Lead Management System, and Booking Reports.

  • Achieve personal individual revenue goals through solicitation, prospecting, meeting with customers, as well as, the negotiating and contracting processes.

  • Work in tandem with Director of Sales & Marketing on the internal (University of Texas at Austin) client relationship including but not limited to meeting, reporting and relationship building on behalf of the property.

  • Oversee and maximize revenue contribution from distribution.

  • Ensure effective utilization of selling guidelines to maximize revenue contribution from all segments.

  • Oversee the management, training and career development of catering sales staff.

  • Responsible for recruiting and identifying candidates for sales managerial positions.

  • Attend weekly departmental meetings and other scheduled meetings to support business operations.

  • Conduct site inspections with potential customers, meeting space and banquet facilities, as well as other property facilities.

  • Basic Property product knowledge, i.e., staffing, operations, safety, security, structural, terminology, fire, police and health codes, hotel policies, city ordinances.

  • Basic knowledge of the property structure/layout and how all departments interact

  • Basic knowledge of various types of set up styles used in the meeting rooms

  • Basic knowledge of audio visual equipment, telecom equipment, lighting and room temperature control

  • Extensive knowledge of market and related meeting industry.

  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to diffuse anger, collect accurate information and resolve conflicts

  • Quantitative processing of data via office machine equipment, mathematical computations and analytical skills necessary to accurately determine and communicate financial, forecasting and space utilization calculations.

  • Proficiency in the use and operation of computer systems with the ability to navigate efficiently through Word, Excel, Outlook, Delphi FDC

  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language to fully comprehend guest requests, memos, proposals, general correspondence and similar written materials.

  • Possess a good conceptual understanding of electronic devices and the ability to operate such items as copy machines, slide projectors, microphones, computers, portable radios, pagers, etc.

  • Ability to complete a contract in compliance with all checklists, standards and property policies.

  • Interpersonal skills to provide overall guest satisfaction.

Must-have qualifications

  • 6+ years of catering sales or event planning experience in a full-service hotel or convention center

    Preferred qualifications

    -Experience in selling over 40,000 sq. ft. of event space
