Job/Position DescriptionDesigns, develops, enhances, maintains, and supports the databases underlying IT systems utilized by HHSC program areas. Maintains and monitors integrated database systems. Develops and maintains complex models and logical database designs. Provides expertise in and participates in the development and implementation of database architectures to meet application performance and security requirements. Works with the application development teams, business stakeholders and other partners to enhance existing systems and implement new solutions. Develops goals and objectives for the use and improvement of efficient and cost-effective database systems.This position is classified as a fulltime position (40 hours a week). Work outside of regular hours may be required. Travel to other work locations may be required. Performs other duties as assignedEssential Job FunctionsAttends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Travel to other work locations may be required.(30%) Perform and support the design, development, tuning and maintenance of databases including structures, performance, security, and recovery. Provide expertise in and participate in the development and implementation of database architectures to meet application performance and security requirements. Develop and maintain complex models and logical database designs. Coordinate with application development and support teams to ensure their needs are met from a database perspective. Participate in the planning, design, administration, operation, monitoring, maintenance, user security, archiving, and system parameters setting for associated database environments.(25%) Implement, administer, manage, and monitor assigned application databases in production and non-production environments. Analyze, design, plan and perform database upgrades and maintenance. Monitor database performance and implement improvements. Ensure that data integrity and data security is maintained. Setup views, roles, stored procedures, and database links to allow use of databases while preserving data integrity and maintaining security within established policies, regulations, and guidelines. Assist in the development and maintenance of the database disaster recovery and backup plan. Establish and implement database security controls and user access levels.(25%) Identify and resolve issues related to database systems to ensure that systems are online and without service interruption. Perform analysis, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and problem resolution. Analyze software for defects and performance tuning opportunities. Develop and test database code/scripts to restore defects and improve application reliability and performance. Write and debug complex stored procedures and triggers. Develop, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot batch processes.(15%) Provide technical guidance for database related design, development, integration, conversion, and testing work. Educate development teams on database concepts and techniques. Assist with analysis and design of new development, updates, changes, and fixes. Evaluate and recommend database software packages for potential acquisitions. Perform routine and ad hoc report design and development.(5%) Other duties as assigned.
