Job Title: Control Systems Specialist
Location: Onsite, Austin, TX
Duration: 10 Months
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM
Pay Rate: $34/hr.
Job Summary:
The Control Systems Specialist (CSS) will ensure that safety is the top priority in all facility operations. This role is responsible for training Facility Technicians on device troubleshooting and preventive maintenance. The CSS will also troubleshoot, design, implement, and document control solutions for material handling systems, act as a liaison for internal and external resources, and be available on call as needed. The ideal candidate must possess strong project management skills, effective communication skills, self-direction, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
Top 3 Required Skills:
Troubleshooting & Programming – Experience with ladder logic, Control View HMI, and Rockwell RSLogix IDEs (5000 preferred).
AutoCAD for Electrical Schematics & Layouts – Ability to review, develop, and maintain control system schematics and conveyor layouts.
Project Management & Documentation – Strong skills in managing multiple projects, performing root cause analysis, and maintaining system documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Diagnose control-level issues in systems using ladder logic and Control View HMI.
• Follow change management processes and develop ad-hoc PLC ladder code changes using Rockwell RSLogix IDEs (5000 preferred).
• Work with A&B PLC processors (CompactLogix and ControlLogix preferred) and input/output modules. Experience with non-A&B control systems such as OPTO, Crisplant, and Buschman BOSS is a plus.
• Utilize AutoCAD to review, develop, and maintain electrical schematics and conveyor layout drawings.
• Collaborate with IT, FC Software, and Operations Engineering to develop and update controls knowledge and training documents for the facilities team.
• Conduct incident follow-up, root cause analysis, and documentation.
• Actively participate in Control System SharePoint site development and weekly conference calls. Maintain updated documentation of control system and equipment configuration changes.
• Engage in local or network-level control projects and Kaizens, with up to 10% travel required.
Basic Qualifications:
• 2+ years of experience in Allen Bradley PLC-based control systems design, development, implementation, and support.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including holidays and weekends, as required.
• Experience with email and Microsoft Excel.
• Hands-on experience diagnosing control issues using ladder logic and Control View HMI.
• 2+ years of experience using AutoCAD for control layout design and schematic development.
• Willingness to travel regionally up to 10%.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
• A 2-year professional electrical training degree or a 4-year BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
• Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize different projects and workloads.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with peers, management, contractors, and vendors.
• Self-motivated and customer-centric mindset.
