ABOUT THE Division General description The Middleware Team is mission-critical, serving the people of Texas by providing exceptional systems engineering for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts applications portfolio. We are seeking an experienced Middleware Administrator to support our custom application infrastructure while collaborating closely with application development, security, and IT infrastructure teams. As a Middleware Team member, you will play a key role in enhancing the performance, resiliency, and security of the Comptrollers application infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include day-to-day operations, continuous improvement of full-stack and microservices-based solutions, enterprise software maintenance and upgrades, platform monitoring, incident response and resolution, security configuration, and ensuring system stability, performance, and availability. You are an excellent fit for this role if you are self-motivated, automation-focused, detail-oriented, and a skilled communicator with sound judgment. Work Hours 8AM to 5PM, 40-hour week, Monday Friday, with occasional evening, weekend and/or holiday hours, including working on-call 24 hours a day during a rotation. Hours may change based on business need. Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. The candidate must have permanent residency within the state of Texas and must be able to meet in office requirements, which can vary among different sections (i.e. report to office 1 day/month, 3days/week, etc.). Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Seven (7) years of general technology experience in either software development, middleware or server administration. Seven (7) years of experience with middleware system administration, configuration, and troubleshooting. Five (5) year of experience with programming/scripting for automation in Ansible, Python, BASH scripts, Perl or similar. Preferred Qualifications Bachelors degree in information systems, computer science or related field. Experience with web application and web services development and/or deployments. Experience w th MuleSoft, IBM WebSphere Liberty, Red Hat OpenShift, ForgeRock, Red Hat DataGrid, SAG BigMemory MAX, Apache httpd, Apache Tomcat, Form.io or similar systems in Linux or Windows. Experience maintaining and troubleshooting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or other Linux distributions. Experience monitoring server and application performance in Splunk, Dynatrace, or similar monitoring tools. Experience in establishing and maintaining security configuration hardening of middleware systems to CIS or DISA STIG benchmarks. Substitution One (1) additional year of the full-time minimum experience in middleware system management and administration may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis up to 4 years (120 semester hours) SUMMARY OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication. In this role you will: Provides architectural and systems analysis. Architect modifications and enhancements and support technical and business needs of the agency. Analyze existing procedures for efficiency and effectiveness. Ensure middleware services adheres to agency standards, policies, and procedures. May serve as technical lead on projects as necessary. May represent team during meetings and projects. Stays informed on latest developments in middleware technologies and applications. Develop and maintain accurate system and architectural documentation for middleware systems and processes. Conducts training of staff prior to implementation of systems, provides advice and guidance during and post implementation. Oversees, trains, and mentors other team members on adherence to accepted operating procedures Support management with budgeting and compliance processes. Provides systems administration. Install, configure, test, upgrade, and maintain middleware services and software. Utilize agency ticketing system to enter and track problems and work requests. Monitors and responds to system and application performance and alerts Participates in rotating 24x7 on-call schedule. Participates in disaster recovery testing and events.
