Currently, GSG is seeking an Accountant III for a contract position.. This in-office role requires candidates to be located in central Austin, TX, with no consideration for applicants outside of the area. However, there is potential for remote work after the training period.

The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM.

  • Reviewing and preparing vouchers/invoices for entry.
  • Coordinating account codes and chart field coding on invoices, requisitions, and travel vouchers.
  • Identifying and communicating funding issues to budget and program management.
  • Reviewing vouchers for errors prior to entry or approval.
  • Generating Expenditure Transfer Vouchers (ETVs) and Purchase Order Adjustments (POAs) related to voucher coding and payments/revisions.
  • Assisting program, accounting, and budget staff with budgetary matters and preparing budget journals and transfers as required.
  • Serving as a resource to department staff and providing technical assistance on accounting matters related to voucher processing and tracking.
  • Utilizing various software including Microsoft Access/Excel/Word, HalFile, USAS, Invoice Tracking, CAPPS 9.2, and HHSAS 8.8 to perform essential job functions.
  • Collaborating with management and Group Leads on staff training, performance, attendance, and production.
  • Assisting with the preparation of weekly staff performance tracking and status reports for management review.
  • Compiling financial statistics and reports related to voucher, POA, and ETV processing for management and budget staff review.
  • Developing and preparing training materials for various financial modules and facilitating training sessions as required.
  • Performing other financial duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of financial administration, fiscal accounting, governmental accounting, budget control methods, policies, and procedures, as well as laws and regulations pertaining to fiscal operations.
  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to follow accounting programs, interpret laws and regulations, apply accounting theory, communicate effectively, and lead others.
  • Proficiency in state accounting and budgetary procedures, legal restrictions governing state accounts payable guidelines, and various computer software including Excel, Halfile, Invoice Tracking, CAPPS 9.2, HHSAS 8.8, USAS, PeopleSoft, and other governmental financial applications.
  • Skills in monitoring and analyzing payments, preparing financial reports, performing financial analysis, processing financial transactions, and coding expenditures.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prepare clear, concise, and accurate financial reports and schedules, analyze financial data, prioritize assignments, meet work deadlines, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and prepare and present training presentations.
  • Ability to oversee the work of others.
