Openings are available for PhD post-doctoral researchers with experience in molecular virology, cell biology, and/or mouse models to study interactions between RNA viruses and mammalian host cells. We are interested in the molecular biology of RNA virus life cycles and their interactions with host proteins (doth dependency and restriction factors). Virus life cycles we have studied include HIV-1, SARS-CoV-2 and picornaviruses. Currently the MDA5-MAVS pathway and other nucleic acid sensing mechanisms are under study in an exciting picornavirus replicase-transgenic mouse with well-tolerated constitutive MDA5 activation and other unique features. Projects have relevance to innate antiviral defense, antiviral effectors interferon-stimulated genes, and prevention of autoimmune disease. The proposed training will be conducted at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Denver, Colorado.

The project and environment will provide intensive training, opportunities to interact and network with collaborators across multiple institutions, and can provide the opportunity for transition as an independent investigator in academia or industry.
