Job Summary:

Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a part-time Faculty (unclassified) Couples and Family Therapist and Education position.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Clinical Service

  • Provide the full range of evidenced-based screening, assessment, psychosocial & behavioral interventions for a variety of patients, with a primary focus on providing family therapy and couples counseling. Individuals, couples, and families may be coping with a broad range of mental health, physical and psychosocial challenges such as: mental health issues in themselves or other family members; acute, chronic, and life-threatening physical conditions; prior trauma; grief and loss; communications issues in couples among other concerns.

  • Demonstrate competence in diversity of all patients, families, and colleagues with respect to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, gender, gender identity, ability status, religion, political beliefs, socioeconomic status, and any other factors related to systemic oppression.

  • Consult and collaborate with interprofessional team members to develop intervention strategies related to mental health, physical and psychosocial challenges.

  • Actively participate in treatment and follow-up planning for individuals, couples, and families.

  • Refer patients to collaborating colleagues across disciplines, departments, and communities as appropriate.

  • Chart patient visits using an electronic medical record.

  • Participate in Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic quality and performance assessment projects.

Education and Oversight of the Couples and Family Therapy Service

  • Develop, provide administrative oversight, and evaluate the Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic Couples and Family Therapy Clinical Service.

  • Triage and refer couples and families who may be appropriate for the Couples and Family Therapy Service.

  • Couples and family therapy curriculum development, implementation and evaluation for the Couples and Family Education and Training Program. Training could include: didactic lectures, seminars, skills-based clinical supervision, consultation, mentoring, etc. and collaboration with other faculty to provide lectures and supervision as appropriate.

  • Provide couples and family therapy education to Psychiatry residents and fellows, Psychology externs, interns, and post-doctoral fellows as well as Social Work fellows.

  • Develop training goals and evaluate the Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic Couples and Family Education and Training Program.

  • Provide annual reports on the Couples and Family Therapy Service and the Training Program.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Clinical Instructor, Sr. Instructor, Assistant Professor:

  • 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum degree qualifications: Psychologist applicants must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA or CPA accredited program with an APA or APPIC approved internship. Social workers, LMFT's and LPC's must have an LCSW, LMFT or LPC from an approved program.

Clinical Associate Professor:

  • 4-7 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum degree qualifications: Psychologist applicants must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA or CPA accredited program with an APA or APPIC approved internship. Social workers, LMFT's and LPC's must have an LCSW, LMFT or LPC from an approved program.

Clinical Professor:

  • 7+ years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum degree qualifications: Psychologist applicants must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA or CPA accredited program with an APA or APPIC approved internship. Social workers, LMFT's and LPC's must have an LCSW, LMFT or LPC from an approved program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-degree training in couples and family therapy.

  • Eligible for licensure or a licensed Psychologist, Social Worker, LMFT, or LPC in Colorado.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain credentialing through the University of Colorado Health system.

  • Prior experience with couples and family therapy curriculum development, implementation and evaluation in behavioral health professions educational programs.

  • Experience in quality assurance, research, manuscript prepration, or other scholarly activity.

  • Training and experience in couples and family therapy.

  • Experience overseeing a couples and family therapy clinical service program.

  • Experience in curriculum development, teaching and supervision in couples and family therapy to trainees across behavioral health disciplines.

  • Understanding of the biomedical, psychological, and social factors impacting couples and families seeking treatment.

  • Experience on interprofessional teams in specialty medical or mental health settings that promotes an inclusive environment.

  • Experience related to the impact of trauma, substance abuse and social determinants related to health, complex physical conditions, mental health and recovery.

  • For Psychologists, Board certified with ABPP or willingness to seek board certification in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, or couples and family psychology.

  • Interest in collaborating in research or quality improvement initiatives Adult Division Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team model and with diverse colleagues, medical specialists, and trainees across disciplines.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.

  • Strong commitment to interprofessional, team-based care within the Department of Psychiatry, and with colleagues from other Departments and specialties.
