Note:* Flexible or partial hybrid schedule possible, dependent on work obligations, needs of the office, and successful probation period.* The City of Auburn Legal department represents the City in its day-to-day operations. The legal Department is located at the Auburn City Hall building and consists of four divisions: Civil, Prosecution, Real estate and the City Clerk's office. The Department is looking to add a talented new Domestic Violence Paralegal to the city prosecuting Team team. In this position, you will perform assist City prosecutors in the preparation and prosecution of criminal cases, and serving as a liaison between the City prosecutors and the victims of domestic violence and other victim-related cases.  This position may also be assigned to support other civil and criminal cases and actions as needed. OUR CITY The City of Auburn is home to over 80,000 residents and encompasses over 29.8 square miles of land, two rivers, and is part of two counties - King and Pierce.  The City operates as a Strong-Mayor form of Mayor-Council government, with a City Council of seven at-large members 

In this role you will:

  • *Assist the City's prosecution staff *with victim and/or witness interviews and maintaining contact with domestic violence case victims and witnesses.  

  • Consult with management, communicates with the court, police, jail personnel, and/or private treatment agencies to obtain and relay information related to pending domestic violence and victim-related criminal cases.

  • Assists Prosecutors with trial preparation, to include issuing subpoenas, contacting witnesses, and coordinating witness interviews.

  • Assesses the interests and needs of victims of domestic violence and other victim-related criminal cases, and provides appropriate legal victim support, to include, educating victims about the process of domestic violence prosecution; attending court hearings as directed; and/or referring victims to social service agencies.

  • Maintains knowledge of legal terminology, documents, and procedures relevant to court proceedings; administrative proceedings; municipal organizational structure and operations; and court rules.
