This is a grant-funded position that is scheduled to expire on or before August 31, 2025
Examples of Duties
Provides mentoring, academic advisement, career, social/personal and transfer counseling in individual and group settings
Administers and interprets various assessment instruments
Monitors the academic status of program participants
Maintains appropriate written documentation and data for federal and local reporting
Process student financial aid appeals
Develops effective relationships with other departments to respond to student and departmental needs
Conducts new student, financial literacy and program orientation sessions
Maintains transfer information for assigned colleges
Facilitates seminars and workshops on various topics relevant to student success
Utilizes effective written and oral communication
Works productively with students and staff from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of program activities
Advises pre-nursing students and student club
Provides crisis intervention and referral services
Teaches affective developmental courses
Supports college and student development retention efforts
Serves on appointed college committees
Pursues professional development and increased knowledge in counseling field and SSS program through self-study, workshops and conferences
Performs related duties as assigned
Typical Qualifications
Education:
- Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Student Personnel Services, Counseling in Higher Education or related field.
Experience:
Two (2) years of professional experience working with a student population that is culturally diverse, academically high-risk, lower-socio-economic status and/or disabled.
Preferred experience in counseling and advising undergraduate students in a higher education setting.
Proficiency in effectively interacting with diverse student populations and maintaining confidentiality while working cooperatively with others to meet their needs.
Knowledge of best practices for time management, organization and study strategies.
Competencies and Skills:
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Self-motivated and detailed oriented, ability to multi-task, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong computer and analytical skills

Terms of Employment:
- This position may require flexible scheduling to include evenings and weekends and duties at any Atlantic Cape location.
