POSITION SUMMARY:

Cherokee Town & Country Club in Atlanta, GA , is seeking an accomplished and passionate Full-Time Wine Director to enrich our distinguished wine program. As an integral part of our exceptional team, this role ensures that every member and guest enjoys a curated, world-class experience-one where thoughtful wine selections enhance every moment and reflect our unwavering commitment to excellence.

The schedule is 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm Tuesday to Saturday, exceptions are for club events and holidays.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A WINE DIRECTOR

The Wine Director at Cherokee Town & Country Club plays a pivotal role in shaping the experience of our members by overseeing the club's distinguished wine program, which spans across our restaurants, banquets, pool, and curated wine list. This key position involves not only the meticulous management of the wine cellar and strategic pricing but also the expertise to collaborate with our chefs in crafting exceptional wine pairings, guiding members in selecting wines, and ensuring impeccable wine service throughout the club.

With one of the most refined and expansive wine collections in the county, as a Sommelier you are entrusted with maintaining the legacy of curating a selection that balances both current offerings and future acquisitions for continued member enjoyment. This includes purchasing wines for aging with a vision for long-term consistency and quality, ensuring the cellar's evolution over the next 20 years.

The Wine Director will be a true ambassador, possess strong industry relationships with wine brokers, vineyards, and wholesalers, facilitating access to rare and exclusive wines that elevate the program to new heights. At Cherokee, we are committed to excellence in every aspect of service, and our wine program reflects this dedication, enhancing the exceptional hospitality and ambiance that define our club.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead wine team with the goal of having the largest and best wine selection in all Country Clubs and within the Southeast. Focus on aging wines and highlighting the wine program as an amenity to the members.

  • Maintain the wine inventory to suit all needs of the club. Purchasing wines to cover all banquets, casual dining, fine dining, Main Bar and Pool Bar.

  • Work closely with the purchasing director to ensure proper inventory. Schedule regular meetings with local wine representatives to stay on top of all the current wines in the market.

  • Be present and accessible during evening hours when the Town Club is at its busiest. Members like to see the sommelier and talk about their upcoming events and specific needs they may have.

  • Manage the catering wine list and pricing as well as providing training(s) for the catering team as changes to the list are made.

  • Train the wine team as well as the hourly and salaried associates. The director will be proactive and set up as much training as everyone's schedule allows. The director will work with the culinary team to help inspire dishes that are wine-friendly.

  • Supervise monthly inventory with outlet managers, supervisors and the assistant sommelier.

  • Manage the wine cost. The director will be responsible for maintaining the Club's budgeted wine cost in all outlets. This will include training on proper pour sizes as well as participating in monthly inventory.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified Somm required, Advanced Somm preferred.

  • 5 years of previous experience in Leadership as a Sommelier or Wine Director.

  • 7+ years of hospitality experience specifically focused in wine related roles.

    COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

    We offer a competitive wage of $100,000 - $110,000 a year based on experience.

    Competitive benefits offered for year-round full-time employees who work an average of 30 hours or more including health, life, short-term disability and long-term disability. All benefits are subject to a waiting period. We offer vacation starting at six months of service for full time employees.

    Some non-health benefits are offered to flexible hour employees. Part time employees are offered time and one half on holidays after a 30 day waiting period.

    Cherokee offers free parking, free meals while on duty, golf privileges on most Mondays, and work uniforms.
