Ivy Prep Academy School Resource Officer in Atlanta, Georgia

JOB SUMMARY

School Resource Officer must maintain visibility and vigilance while establishing a rapport with scholars and staff and must be able to make sound decisions in emergency and non-emergency situations. 

Essential Duties  

● Patrols assigned areas and ensures safety of the school campus. 

● Patrols campus/building and checks for unauthorized personnel; Checks for visitor and employee badges. 

● Serves as a visible and active security presence on campus dealing with visitors and scholars who present challenges as these schools may require supervision and direction to make positive choices to further their educational opportunities 

● Assists with monitoring and regulates scholar behavior on campus, in the cafeteria restrooms, parking lots and other open areas; Assists the Administrative team with scholar disciplinary issues 

● Assists with controlling disturbances or acts of defiance and requests assistance from school administration when necessary

  • Participates in risk identification and provides preventive options to the Administrative team. 

    ● Serves as a member of the Operations Team assisting with emergency preparedness drills, maintaining an emergency evacuation kit, providing input on the site-based safety plan, and providing school safety training, etc

    ● Assists the Operations Team in providing crowd control for on campus after hours special activities and events. 

    ● Provides visible and active security presence throughout the school dealing with students, faculty, and staff; Assists with making positive decisions, provides supervision and supports the overall goal of education as assigned 

    ● Serves as a member of the safety team in assisting with safety / risk management

    ● Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator 

    Knowledge/Skills / Abilities 

    ● Knowledge of general school board policies and student codes of conduct 

    ● Excellent customer service skills are critical to the success of this role 

    ● Knowledge of technical and computer skills 

    ● Ability to work with youth and adults 

    ● Ability to diffuse differences through conflict resolution 

    ● Must be able to effectively communicate with both public and school personnel

    ● Must be able to pass a criminal history and background check 

    Working Conditions 

    ● Works during school hours (7:00am-3:30pm) 

    ● Must be available to work special events held at the school after school hours as needed Physical Abilities and Working Conditions 

    Vision: (which may be corrected) to read small print; view a computer screen for prolonged periods. Hearing: (which may be corrected) to answer telephones and tolerate exposure to noisy conditions. 

    Speech: to be understood in face-to-face communications; to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone. 

    Upper Body Mobility: u se hands and fingers to feel, grasp, and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head. 

    Strength: to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects that weigh as much as 25 or more pounds on a frequent basis. Incumbent may be required to restrain parties involved in a conflict physically. 

    Environmental Requirements : encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors. 

    Mental Requirements: read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgment and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records.

    Requirements  

    Education 

    ● High School Diploma or GED equivalent required 

    ● Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred

    Certification/Licensure 

    ● CPR & AED Certified 

    ● Must hold or be able to obtain within 12 months of employment date 

    ○ National Incident Management System Certification Levels 100, 200 and 700 Experience Qualifications 

    ● Minimum 3 years of related work experience required 

    ● A combination of experience and college degree may be considered in lieu of 3 years of experience 

    ● Peace Officer Standards in Training (POST) preferred 

    ● Previous law enforcement or military experience preferred
