Position Summary

In support of Morehouse School of Medicine’s Vision; “Leading the creation and advancement of health equity,” the Department of Surgery is seeking Physicians to join their team.

The Department of Surgery at Morehouse School of Medicine ( MSM ) is recruiting a translational research expert to play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between preclinical research and clinical application to accelerate the development of therapies within its Research Division. The incumbent will lead a cross-functional team of surgeons and scientists and provide guidance and oversight to research project managers, clinical research associates, coordinators, and laboratory staff—the incumbent reports to the Chair of the Department of Surgery.

Responsibilities:

  • Work across Research and Clinical enterprises to define translational surgical research strategy across our surgical oncology portfolio, including making recommendations regarding endpoints, study design, and safety evaluations.

  • Provide scientific and technical leadership in the translation research group.

  • Work closely with scientists across different functions and projects in a matrix environment.

  • Serve as key scientific liaison for external partnering and academic collaborations.

  • Manage and analyze experimental data and present results at internal meetings and scientific conferences

  • Partner with biostatisticians and biomarker experts to ensure high-quality data to support analysis, interpretation, and reports.

  • Work with the project team lead to ensure efficient implementation of all key deliverables and provide frequent project status updates to the cross-functional development teams.

  • Develop high-quality protocols and outputs and maintain detailed documentation of procedures and data to comply with internal standard operating procedures and other quality criteria.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD. degree in pharmacology, oncology, cell biology, or a related discipline

  • A strong background in Oncology, Immunology, and experience in translational medicine

  • Rigorous, quantitative, and detail-oriented experimentalist.

  • Strong track record of scientific productivity as evidenced by high-quality publications.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize options, anticipate challenges, and execute goals as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

  • A strategic thinker with a deep understanding of oncology and prior project team leadership

  • Demonstrated track record in leading cross-functional teams and work streams: translational research, biostatistics, regulatory, and clinical.

  • Understanding the entire Oncology development process, including clinical and non-clinical study design, use of immunologic surrogates, and assay development.

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment.
