JOB SUMMARY:
The App-Dev Security Reuse and CIAM Manager plays a pivotal role in leading teams that support enterprise-wide technology initiatives. This position is responsible for managing application development standards, supporting core reusable services, consulting on solution architecture, and overseeing our external customer enterprise CIAM product. The ideal candidate will drive innovation, ensure compliance, and enhance the overall effectiveness of application development processes across Southern Company.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business, or another related field, is required.
Ten years or more successfully developing or leading the development of business applications for Fortune 500 companies.
Extensive technical knowledge on the nuances of contemporary Technology Business Application Development techniques, toolsets and strategies. Must have proven experience using industry standard Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies.
Deep understanding of the different software development models, such as Waterfall and Agile. The incumbent should have the knowledge to determine the appropriate use cases for each method.
Strong knowledge around contemporary business application architecture is required, from the various layers that comprise modern day computer applications to upstream and downstream technology infrastructure elements which highly affect the functionality and performance experienced by our business partners and customers.
Attitude is critical, the incumbent must have a high degree of focus on quality and effectiveness for the team’s internal customers. Not only must the processes and solutions work well technically, but they must also be efficient from a governance, administrative and security standpoint. The App-Dev Security Reuse CIAM Manager must be willing to challenge the status quo for the betterment of the business and the services provided.
Must be a strategic thinker, able to create what should be our long-range vision for how Technology Business Applications be developed based on current and expected demand, existing capabilities, and anticipated business value.
Ability to evaluate and operationalize new technology at an enterprise level. This includes development tools, applications, and platforms.
Strong business acumen is mandatory. The incumbent must constantly be mindful of the importance that the offered services and direction provide excellent business value. The App-Dev Shared Services Director is expected to constantly stay attuned to the market and adjust how we develop and support Technology Business applications to ensure Southern Company is highly effective and nimble with delivering new functional capabilities via our business applications.
Excellent vendor / supplier management skills. Our technology suppliers are a vital part of our technology eco-system; they need to be leveraged fully. The incumbent needs to be able to both negotiate with our vendor partners and hold them accountable for the service level quality they contractually committed to. The incumbent should be able to interface with technology vendors to define roadmaps, escalate issues and solve complex problems.
Sound knowledge of the budgeting process, fiscal management, and how to appropriately estimate costs and plan for ongoing technology projects and maintenance. Must understand basic budgetary principles and techniques, being able to distinguish, plan and oversee capital and operating budgets.
Excellent analytical, problem solving, planning and project management skills.
Proven track record of achieving business results working with and through others.
Must be a proven change leader, willing to drive cultural and behavioral change that will contribute to maturing and improving the overall effectiveness for using technology across Southern Company.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The App-Dev Security Reuse and CIAM Manager leads the team that co-owns application development architectures, platforms, methodologies, standards, tools, processes, governance, and techniques used across the Technology Organization. This responsibility spans the entire lifecycle of a business application, from inception to sunset.
Enterprise Development Standards
The App-Dev Security Reuse and CIAM Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effectiveness and strategic alignment of our application development standards. This leader will establish and manage a comprehensive governance program that is not only measurable and efficient but also delivers significant value across the organization.
These standards will cover a wide array of applications, including on-premises, cloud, and hybrid cloud environments, with a focus on custom application monitoring and security features. They will span multiple platforms and technologies, such as mobile, web, integrations, batch processing, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
To drive adoption and understanding of these standards, the Manager will implement a strategic multi-channel communication plan designed to engage a diverse audience. By defining and refining development standards, the Manager will work to minimize friction within the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Acting as a technology evangelist, the Manager will empower technical teams to fully leverage the capabilities of our existing toolset.
Furthermore, the Manager will ensure rigorous compliance with these standards, particularly in relation to security, and will oversee auditing processes to maintain the highest levels of integrity and performance in our application development practices.
Versatile Application Diagnostician
The App-Dev Services Director maintains a sub-team skilled in diagnosing application issues, especially those impacting production systems. This sub-team's skillset includes network traffic tracing, memory dump analysis, code analysis, configuration evaluation, and log analysis. They are expected to add value to troubleshooting efforts with minimal prior knowledge of the application.
Enterprise Reuse Support
The App-Dev Security Reuse and CIAM Manager is responsible for leading the design, support, and development of essential enterprise reuse components and services. This includes, but is not limited to, security-focused reuse, configuration management, and application monitoring.
A key objective for the Manager is to develop reusable tools and frameworks that significantly reduce application development time while enhancing the operational efficiency and performance of applications. By fostering a culture of innovation and efficiency, the Manager will ensure that reusable solutions contribute to streamlined processes and optimized resource utilization across the organization.
IAM and CIAM Support
The App-Dev Security Reuse and CIAM Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing security within application development and crafting custom solutions related to Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM). This responsibility includes defining robust application security and encryption standards, as well as selecting and deploying leading-edge static application security scanning tools.
The Manager's team is tasked with building and managing essential IAM systems, such as enterprise single sign-on, Active Directory management, and process automation tools like WebWare, alongside comprehensive enterprise application security systems.
Additionally, the team provides strategic guidance on Southern Company’s enterprise IAM strategy and application security guidelines, working collaboratively with TO Security to ensure alignment with organizational security objectives and best practices.
New Application Technology Development
The App-Dev Security Reuse and CIAM Manager evaluates and drives new technology development and adoption within the scope of application development and strategic foundational platforms. This includes application development tools and new frameworks, aiming to foster innovation across the technology organization.
Strategy Development and Execution
The App-Dev Security Reuse and CIAM Manager is expected to contribute thought leadership in the creation of enterprise strategies. These strategies should be forward looking. They should also be aligned with business imperatives to offer near-term and long-term benefits.
Budget
Expense and budgetary oversight is a vital element of the App-Dev Security Reuse and CIAM Manager role. The incumbent will be directly responsible for managing a departmental budget for their respective area, along with an asset budget for tools and/or services.
