Serco Experienced Operations Research Analyst in Arlington, Virginia

Position Description

The Operations Research Analyst will work with a fast-paced team delivering analysis to support data-driven decisions. You will use statistical and analytical tools to develop smart solutions our clients’ toughest challenges. Must be comfortable in a challenging, collaborative, multi-tasking, dynamic, high-tempo, deadline-intensive environment with a flexible work schedule supporting multiple customers. You will work in close collaboration with senior government and commercial customers providing consultation, recommendations, and support. You must also have excellent listening as well as oral and written communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with customers and colleagues. This is a hybrid role and which will require you work on site but also provide opportunities to work remotely at times. Successful applicants will reside in the National Capital Area, the Niceville, Florida area, or Tidewater area of Virginia.

The Analyst will report to the Director for Analytics, Cyber, and Technology Solutions and will operate in various roles such as individual contributor, team member, and project lead. You will interface with customers on a regular basis to develop project requirements, collaborate and work on integrated teams, and to brief, defend, and support project results, and a high degree of teamwork, collaboration skills, and personal integrity are required.

In this role you will:

  • Serve as operations research analyst subject matter expert working on project teams with other consultants representing multi-disciplinary skillsets

  • Be part of leading-edge projects to deliver analytic solutions to government problems

  • Lead study design and execution (potentially in collaboration with FFRDC, government or other contractor team members), while simultaneously demonstrating an innovative ability to modify/adapt techniques

  • Collaborate and engage with senior managers/decision makers to elicit, frame and solve problems

  • Develop and execute analysis and study plans that address complex problems, examine trade-offs and sensitivities, and produce data and information rich products and artifacts

  • Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of DoD projects or programs in their ability to meet the established goals and objectives of the National Defense Strategy; including, but not limited to, military utility assessments of new/proposed weapon systems and their concepts of employment

  • Apply advanced quantitative methodologies in the areas of probability and statistics, optimization, and simulation to solve complex problems

  • Conduct assessments to examine warfighter requirements, conduct mission and technical assessments, prioritize technology investment recommendations and support the development of risk assessments across multiple domains, warfare areas and timeframes

  • Design, develop, and adapt mathematical, statistical, econometric, and other scientific methods and techniques to provide advice and insight about the probable effects of alternative courses of action

  • Develop customer briefings and support meetings by effectively visually communicating the impact of your analyses

  • Support bid and proposal efforts involving analytics expertise and contribute to customer engagement and business development efforts

  • Educate and influence stakeholders, customers, and teammates on effective solutions and best practices

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent STEM degree preferred. Other areas of study could include Data Science (Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, etc.), Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or Systems Engineering

  • Seven (7) years’ experience providing analytic support. Department of Defense DoD and federal clients is preferred but not a requirement

  • Ability to apply advanced quantitative methodologies in the areas of probability and statistics, optimization, and simulation to solve complex problems.

  • Working knowledge of DoD policies, instructions, directives, and technical guidance

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Ability to work in a highly dynamic, complex, and deadline-intensive environment excellent writing and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work 'on site' in one of our target areas (National Capital Area, Niceville, FL area, or Virginia Tidewater area)

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Even better with:

  • TS/SCI clearance

  • Proficient in at least one scientific programming language such as Python or R, and willingness to advance programming skills.

  • Basic familiarity with common machine learning algorithms

  • Foundational abilities with data visualization/business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and Qlik

  • Basic familiarity with databases and use of SQL
