City Of Apple Valley Natural Resources Intern in Apple Valley, Minnesota

Under the direction of the Natural Resources Coordinator, individual will be an integral part to the Natural Resources division duties including forestry, water resources, and environmental protection efforts. The intern will identify trees infected with oak wilt, Dutch elm disease and Emerald ash borer (EAB) on public and private property within the City of Apple Valley. The intern will provide preventive treatment recommendations and follow up inspections to assure compliance with shade tree management protocols. The intern will assist in a variety of water resources improvement efforts. This will include inspecting private and public best management practices, such as ponds, lakes, and raingardens. Position will also assist in collecting water quality samples on area lakes and ponds. Position provides recommendations for invasive species management at City owned facilities and assists in the inspection and closure of permitted construction projects impacting natural resources. Work will involve frequent communication with the public during field inspections, phone conversations, and email. Job duties may also include: tree inventory, tree and pest identification, water resources projects, education and outreach, planting and watering. this position will require spending a significant amount of time outdoors. Employment offer will be contingent on driving and criminal background check. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., flexible start date and employment not to extend beyond 6 months.
