The Principal Utility Program Manager (PUPM) builds relationships with utility providers to facilitate the company’s construction and operation of data centers; Planning, Developing and Delivering utility services to ensure capacity and connectivity to meet program goals. The Principal Utility Program Manager oversees the programming, budgeting design and delivery of essential public utility services, such as electricity, gas, water, fiber, and wastewater treatment. The PUPM is responsible for creating an exceptional utility engagement program that prioritizes continuous innovation and improvement. This position guides a team of internal and external stakeholders to establish consensus, assure regulatory compliance, and meet internal NTT corporate goals for reliability, cost, and sustainability. Drawing on extensive expertise in utility engagement practices, the PUPM formulates and maintains utility services delivery plans through final service delivery by utilizing the defined schedules and budgets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Overall, the Principal Utility Program Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of essential public services to our business.

  • Owns the NTT program budget for the utility impact to NTT Data Center Operating costs and capital improvement projects.

  • Provides Due Diligence and capacity planning expertise while working with front end planning & land acquisition teams on regional expansion programs.

  • Guides internal Subject Matter Experts (SME) and external consultants as needed.

  • Oversees the installation and maintenance of utility physical infrastructure while working with the internal construction management teams-

  • Ensures that an adequate handover on account management is provided to Construction, RE&F & Operations including launching initial billing & rates.

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to sustain safety, improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service quality.

  • Manages and leverages relationships with government agencies, community organizations, and other stakeholders.

  • Monitors and analyzes data on utility performance, such as usage, demand, and outage rates, to identify areas for improvement.

  • Develops and implements programs to promote energy conservation and sustainability.

  • Advises internal stakeholders on demand & capacity planning to generate data to aid in utility planning.

  • Establish strong relationships with all stakeholders through collaboration and superior communication skills.

  • Develops and maintains knowledge base of leading industry standards, partner with allied organizations and champion internal adoption for continual improvement for Utility Services.

  • Develop, refine, and integrate reporting processes with department standards to advise stakeholders.

  • Provides strategy, vision, and direction regarding evolving issues that have company-wide impact.

  • Understands the wider business goals and ensures the utility program is in alignment with other program key strategies, can take diverse stakeholders / audiences on the utility programs journey and find common ground in conflicting agendas.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Project and program management: The ability to manage complex projects and programs, develop and track budgets, manage risks, and ensure delivery within established timelines and objectives.

  • Understands advanced issues and implications, can establish mitigation strategies all while making the technical simple for reporting to C-Suite executive teams.

  • Utility infrastructure knowledge: Expert understanding of the design, construction, and maintenance of utility infrastructure, including electrical, gas, water, fiber, and wastewater systems.

  • Technical expertise: Strong technical knowledge and experience with utility systems, including the ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and schematics.

  • Leadership and communication: Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and industry groups.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills: The ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions, as well as the ability to identify and solve problems in a timely and effective manner.

  • Regulatory compliance: A strong understanding of applicable regulations, standards, and safety requirements, as well as the ability to ensure compliance with these requirements.

  • Rate, regulations, and delivery options: Proficient analysis of Utility rate structures, marketplace sourcing, Generation, Transmission and Delivery options in regulated and open markets.

  • Financial management: Strong financial management skills, including the ability to develop and manage budgets, monitor expenditures, and identify opportunities for cost savings.

  • Proficient in autonomously setting program objectives and working towards their achievement.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering or relevant field required.

  • 12+ years’ experience with major utility engagement.

  • Accredited degree in Engineering preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Primarily walking, standing, and bending on project site.

  • Able to hear and speak into a telephone.

  • Close visual work on a computer terminal.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.

  • Able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • 25%: Travel to Construction jobsites at various levels of development

  • 25%: Standard office; Data Center environment with varying temperatures and loud noises; extensive daily usage of workstation or computer

  • This position is expected to be remote with the occasional need to be at jobsite as needed.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a current, valid state-issued driver’s license.

This is a remote position that requires reliable internet connection and electricity. A monthly stipend is provided to cover expenses associated with working remotely and use of a personal mobile device, if applicable.

NTT Global Data Centers Americas, Inc. offers competitive compensation based on experience, education, and location. Base salary for this position is $149,000 - $275,000.

All regular full-time employees are eligible for an annual bonus; payout is dependent upon individual and company performance.
