Job Information

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. If the person selected is not affiliated with the AMEA, he or she must become a member in good standing within 31 days of beginning work.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

DEPARTMENT: Project Management & Engineering Department

HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

LOCATION OF WORK: 4700 Elmore Road, Anchorage, AK

Example of Duties

Inspection of capital construction projects for conformance to plans and contract, documentation/verification of pay quantities, production of as-built drawings, establishment of record documentation at project completion, and review/comment of upcoming project plans and specifications. Assist and communicate directly with contractors, and engineers to resolve any construction design related issues. During project construction, this position meets with various municipal and private utilities and coordinates with them to ensure project does not negatively impact the utility. This position also meets with impacted property owners to explain what is being done and address any potential impacts to their properties.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design (CAD), traffic signal control, and/or code enforcement and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician II level with Municipality or equivalent elsewhere.

OR

Associate's degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, Computer Assisted Design (CAD), or a discipline specific to the department and three (3) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design CAD), traffic signal control and/or code enforcement and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician II level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.

OR

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, or a discipline specific to the department and one (1) year of experience at the Engineering Technician II level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.

Military Service Interview Preference :

Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
