Job Description Summary:

As a Senior Network Engineer with Rocket Software, you are part of a global, fast-paced IT organization with a primary mission to provide world class service to software development labs and internal departments ensuring our employees have access and communication systems to perform at the highest level.

Rocket Software is seeking a Senior Network Engineer with expertise in F5 load balancing and Palo Alto firewall deployment from the ground up. This role is integral to maintaining and optimizing our global network infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and performance across our enterprise. As part of a fast-paced IT organization, you will lead network design, implementation, and support initiatives, playing a key role in architecture planning, troubleshooting, and mentoring junior engineers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design, configure, and deploy F5 BIG-IP solutions (LTM, GTM, ASM, APM) to optimize application delivery, security, and performance.

• Architect, implement, and deploy Palo Alto firewalls from scratch, including initial setup, rule base creation, threat prevention, and integration with enterprise environments.

• Maintain and monitor network infrastructure to ensure high availability, performance, and security.

• Evaluate new networking technologies and strategies to enhance scalability and efficiency.

• Configure Cisco Catalyst and Nexus cisco switches from scratch including AAA, SNMP, ACL, L2 and L3.

• Configure and maintain Cisco routers utilizing OSFP & BGP at a high level.

• Participate in roadmap and architecture planning, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

• Lead and contribute to multiple projects and work streams concurrently, delivering solutions on time and within budget.

• Respond to network and/or voice-related incidents, troubleshoot and assess root causes, and provide remediation plans.

• Work network-related incident and trouble tickets and participate in on-call rotation.

• Develop and maintain network and voice standard operating procedures, diagrams, and maintenance plans.

• Collaborate with third-party support vendors to ensure continuous network availability and reliability.

Required Qualifications:

• 5-8 years of experience in traditional WAN and LAN networking using Cisco products (routing, switching, wireless) and protocols (HSRP, VPC, Port-channels, Spanning Tree, VTP).

• Strong expertise with routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), QoS, and traffic shaping.

• 3-5 years of experience with SD-WAN technologies.

• 5-8 years working in complex, distributed, multi-OS environments with overlapping technologies.

• 5-8 years of hands-on experience with Palo Alto firewalls, Panorama, and GlobalProtect VPN client in an enterprise setting.

• Experience with AWS, Azure, or other cloud infrastructure.

• Strong customer service-oriented attitude and ability to support end users across varying technical levels.

• Excellent interpersonal, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills for diagnosing complex network/system issues.

• Ability to quickly learn new technologies with minimal guidance.

• Experience mentoring junior team members and fostering knowledge-sharing within a team.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on documentation and team collaboration.

• Experience with network monitoring tools such as Nagios or other similar products.

• Hands-on experience with Cisco ACI (Application-Centric Infrastructure) and Nexus 9K.

• Familiarity with TACACS and Cisco ISE for network access control and security policy enforcement.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in F5 load balancing technologies (BIG-IP, LTM, GTM, ASM, APM).

• Experience with IP Address Management (IPAM) solutions and network diagramming tools like Visio.

• Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field or professional certifications from Cisco, Palo Alto, or F5 (CCNP, PCNSE, F5-CTS, etc.).
