Xcel Energy Transmission Planning Engineer Intern in Amarillo, Texas

Position Summary
The position is a learning opportunity for interns pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis is power systems engineering and analysis.
This Internship will be working in Amarillo, TX and will be part-time during the 2024 - 2025 school year starting January 2025 and full-time during the summer months.
Responsibilities
Work alongside experience Transmission Planning engineers and assist with the verification of transmission planning models, which include power flow, transient stability and short circuit models.
Aside from model verification, intern will learn the principles behind transmission modeling and the need for completing these types of analysis to assure transmission system reliability for the SPS network.
Expected to perform these different types of analysis, with various degrees of complexity, and gain an in-depth knowledge of what it takes to assure system reliability, when tasked with keep the lights on.
Become familiar with requirements specific to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and how these requirements have shaped the electric utility industry.
Other duties will be assigned including participation in some meetings with the Southwest Power Pool to gain knowledge with the operation of a Regional Transmission Organization.
Requirements
Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program, studying Electrical Engineering with emphasis in power system engineering or Computer Science may be considered
MS-Office Skills (Word, Excel, Visio, etc.), Computer programing VBA, Python a plus
Webpage skills a plus
Good writing abilities is a plus, along with good organizational skills

Non-Bargaining
The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $20.70 to $22.50 per hour
This position is eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays
