Essential Job Duties
  • Cuts, bends, threads, fits, welds all types of pipe and tubing including steel, plastic, cast iron, stainless steel, copper, and aluminum.
  • Fabricates and installs pipe hangers and supports.
  • Capable of using all tools of the trade, including threaders, sewer machines, benders, saws and drills.
  • Uses various machines such as arc welders, pipe threaders, pipe/tubbing benders, band saws, drill presses, portable electric tools, and an assortment of hand tools. Pressure test colts and tanks.
  • Uses oxyacetylene torch for heating, cutting, soldering, and brazing of various materials used by the craft.
  • Works with pressure ranging from low to very high, including ultra-high vacuum.
  • Must be proficient in reading prints and sketches for the fabrication work required of this craft.
  • Interprets, lays out, and fabricates items in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Pipes products including water, steam, air, vacuum, condensate, sewage, oil acids, and refrigerants.
  • Uses acid to clean coils and piping systems.
  • Unclogs sewage lines.
  • Ensures the accurate and efficient replacement of parts, repairs and/or adjustments to equipment, installations and/or fixtures.
  • Performs duties under the direction of line management.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of accurate records
  • Adheres to Safety, Fire, and Security Regulations.
  • Must be able to work alone or with others, as the job requires.
  • Responsible for the safe operation and proper care of materials, tools and equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, DOE, Corporate and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the Training and Development Technologies Department, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2), and Management.
  • Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls.
  • Understands a workers right to stop work when they feel their own or others personal safety is jeopardized.
  • Attends all required safety meetings and training. Offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment.

Skills and Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or (GED) General Equivalency Diploma.
  • Must be able to perform all duties and functions outline above.
  • Must meet initial employment requirements.
  • Must be able to read, write, and comprehend applicable written and/or oral instructions.
  • Must be physically fit to perform the above job functions as determined by Medical Evaluation.
  • Must have a valid State Motor Vehicle Operators License.
  • All qualifications, work history, training, and education are to be verified by direct contact with former employers and/or documented proof.
  • Newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2)
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., 1 year maintenance-related experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personne will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2)

PIPEFITTER/PLUMBER:

  • Must have successfully completed a four (4) year Pantex approved Apprenticeship which provides experience directly related to the work currently performed by the Pipe Shop, and either a current Journeyman plumbing licensee issued by the state Board of Plumbing Examiners or possess a journeyman pipefitter certification.
  • May be required complete Backflow training and pass test for license within 24 months.
  • May be required to become certified to perform asbestos abatement work; unless medically disqualified.
  • May be required to pass, and maintain certification in, the A.S.M.E. code (Steel Pipe) Welding Test at the Plant.
Functional Requirements

  • Practical ability to differentiate colors.
  • No evidence of current drug or alcohol abuse
  • Ability to use small tools
  • Ability to perform safety-sensitive duties
