Job Description

CSMART is currently looking for an ​Instructor * * for our Nautical Department for ​40​ hours per week, with a particular focus on crew resource management, current and emerging technologies and procedures achieved by training and simulations.

​In order to achieve and maintain the agreed maritime standards, the role of the instructor is to expand their skill set to suit the training needs of the organization. Applicants must possess a high degree of self-motivation and a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team​.

The role focuses on training provided to cruise ship officers. You are contributing by bringing your skills and knowledge to the training center and sharing this with the training department staff members. 

 As an  Instructor (Nautical),  you are an integral part of the CSMART team, where your key responsibilities will include, yet not limited to:

Instructor:

  • Delivering training to ship-board nautical staff 

  • Delivering courses according to the CSMART course delivery process 

  • Act as representative of the corporate safety culture and promote this attitude with candidates 

  • Developing courses/new procedures to be implemented on board ships 

  • Keeping up to date with current practices and technology 

  • Liaising with the Operations Support team and other instructors to ensure everything is prepared prior to start of courses 

  • Following up with underperforming and outstanding participant process 

  • Managing equipment including simulators and any deficiencies 

Professional Development

  • Stays abreast with latest developments in teaching techniques and the use of simulators as a teaching aid.

  • Further studies the subject that is being taught to become a subject matter expert.

  • Stays abreast with latest developments in the subject in regards to new technology, new Carnival procedures and new international regulations.

  • Stays abreast with latest case studies relating to the subject being taught.

  • Understudies other courses at CSMART.

  • Visits a ship bi-annually to stay updated with ship operation with a focus on the subject being taught.

Requirements & Experience

  • At least 5 + years in a nautical/technical/environmental* related field at sea/ashore (*cumulative for ENV).

  • Served as Captain, Port Pilot, Staff Captain with extensive ship handling experience. (Podded vessels experience preferred)

  • Analytical and structured thinker 

  • Cruise Ship experience is highly preferred. 

  • Experience in teaching/ instructing would be an asset. 

Skills (Technical / Language / Personal Skills)

  • Knowledge of computers and networks Software Skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Apply fluent written and verbal English language

  • Able to effectively convey information across

  • Able to navigate complex social dynamics Strong interpersonal & communication skills 

  • Demonstrate a growing mindset and able to influence others 

  • Works well in multi-cultural team environments and on individual assignments

  • Open, conscious, engaged, agreeable, with a natural passion to develop others

  • Ability to work unassisted
