Alfred University Digital Content Writer in Alfred, New York
The digital content specialist and writer will serve as digital content producer, particularly for the website and social media channels, to support strategic initiatives of the Communications and Marketing Office. The specialist will facilitate the curation, creation, and collection of new and existing content for distribution across university digital platforms. This person is responsible for developing compelling written web and social media content to enhance the reputation and visibility of the University, driving engagement, and ultimately enrollment, among target audiences.
The specialist will work closely with the Vice President for Marketing and Communications to define and evolve social media strategies for the University, and partner with others in the Marketing and Communications Office to develop and execute content and communication initiatives to support our overall institutional content strategy. This person will effectively navigate various emerging content creation techniques including, but not limited to: conceptualizing, writing, editing and collaborating with others across the University campus.
Salary: $42,000-$45,000, 35 Hours Per Week
Requirements:
Formal Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: Minimum 3-4 years' experience executing related digital writing and marketing tactics
Additional Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of multi-channel marketing; writing for the web; social media; and brand management
Effective interpersonal skills and computer proficiency and positive work ethic are essential
Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and analytical skills
Experience creating content in a variety of formats strongly preferred
Google AdWords, Google Analytics and/or SEO knowledge and experience
Position involves some travel, evening, and weekend work
Responsibilities:
Conceptualize, develop, and produce audience-focused content for the Alfred University website that drives prospective students and other audience engagement
Edit and repurpose existing content for improved user consumption and content optimization by search engines
Craft sharable content that supports and reflects a site-wide SEO strategy
Develop innovative strategies that leverage the power of the Alfred University web sites, social media channels, email, video and other marketing and communication tools to enhance the Alfred University mission and strategic goals
Serve as an integral part of a marketing and communications team that works to fulfill high-level university goals and initiatives including marketing strategy, communications, enrollment, alumni and community engagement, development communications and marketing, and student, faculty, and staff communications
Proofread and edit content developed through other internal/external channels
Review web content on an ongoing basis to ensure relevancy and "freshness" and reach out to content owners when replacement content is needed
Utilize tools such as Google Analytics, Google Trends and Google AdWords Keyword Planner to identify SEO opportunities, keyword planning, traffic analysis, and content analysis
Monitor Alfred University's profiles on college search sites
Lead digital community- building
Create and post content in social media communities
Monitor and respond as appropriate on social media channels to foster engagement
Must stay abreast of trends in higher education marketing and communication and advances in technology
Partner with University peers to ensure regular improvements and updates to the external website
Act as the point person and provide support, training, and continued education to Alfred University social media content managers
Ensure performance of content is regularly compiled and analyzed to make data-informed decisions on content strategy
Help supervise a team of students to assist with social media communications
Adhere to the University visual identity standards and Web Standards
Meet relevant legal requirements such as accessibility standards, freedom of information and privacy
Perform other responsibilities as assigned, participate in safety training, and comply with all University policies, safety rules, regulations, and protocols
