Job Summary and Qualifications
The endoscopy technician is responsible for maintaining the integrity, safety, and the efficiency of the sterile filed as appropriate to the procedure to insure optimum outcomes for patients of all ages. The technician prepares and arranges instruments and supplies, assists the physician throughout the procedure and anticipates their needs. Their assignments are based on acuity, census, and skills required

Demonstrates support for patient’s rights in day to day interactions
Maintains safe, physical environment and required equipment and supplies
Gives direct patient care as delegated
Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the physical, psychosocial, safety and related criteria appropriate to all age groups
Respects patient privacy and confidentiality
Notifies the responsible RN of any changes in the patient’s condition, noted problems encountered, or need for change in the prescribed plan of care
Assisting with restocking of rooms in endoscopy
Assisting other members of the team with duties to achieve quality care
Assisting in the orientation of new employees
Participating in unit conferences and quality improvement projects
Safely and efficiently uses patient care equipment by:
Practicing principles of good body mechanics
Removing discontinued equipment from the rooms and returning to the appropriate place
Charging items from supply cart to the appropriate patient
Continually develop necessary skills to maintain competence
Communicates any patient’s report of pain to the nursing staff
Maintains working knowledge of hazardous materials kept on the unit, their storage and procedure for spill clean up
Attends educational programs/inservices related to job performance and self development
Safely and efficiently performs patient transport to and from treatment area
Assists in the positioning of patients to insure safety, proper alignment, and protection of skin, nerves, and joints
Cleans and disinfects endoscopic equipment according to recommended procedure and hospital policy
Able to identify potential or actual victims of abuse and understands proper reporting mechanism
Able to set up and assist with endoscopic procedures outside the department as indicated by patient acuit
What qualifications you will need:
Completion of high school or equivalent
Completion of on-the-job training demonstrating the ability to assist the physician
BLS to be completed within 3 months of the hire date
